Well, in 1939 Stalin signed a pact with Hitler to invade Poland and Lithuania, and also invaded Latvia, Estonia and Finland. Finland resisted the invasion almost like Ukraine now, and lost only its most eastern territories. The Baltic States were immediately swallowed, with all their élites deported in Siberia and most of them quickly killed, just as all the Polish officer war prisoners. Glorious war, they said.
