Equipment / Re: NanoVNA SWR reading made simple
« on: December 28, 2021, 0752 UTC »
Simple!
Touch the screen and go to Stimulus -> CW FREQ and set that to the desired frequency. the yellow line is your swr.
NANO VNA is a saviour when it comes to MW and lowfer antennas!

Equipment / Ameritron Al811 help
« on: December 28, 2021, 0750 UTC »
Hello!
I am Radio Pushka  ;D
Well, currently got 6920 khz back up with a 15 watt transmitter. I rebuilt my antenna to be more powerful and now it has an swr of 1.0 on 6920 and 15 watts carrier gets out quite well. When I plug in my Ameritron, It tunes perfectly and I get a solid 200 watt carrier which i have enough drive for. But as soon as I put in audio it sounds all distorted as if something is not tuned correctly. Also, when i set my load control to 0 the power dips a little and the distortion gets worse, when i set the load to 10 which is max, the audio sounds less distorted and i get more output. Its like there is not enough load capacitance or something. Anyone know what could be the issue and how to resolve?

Thank you!

Thank you for helping me.
Well, looks like the vertical gets out a little better than the dipole. Today I was running the vertical and It is reaching you better. I guess its now a matter of gain and power.

Thanks for the posting Radio Pushka! I deleted my recording as the local noise level was just too much to even ID the genre....it sounded like a harder edged song....a driving beat but not regular techno. Hard to pin down without having Shazam for Windows anymore. I'll just have to keep on trying! I do not believe using a splitter to run both vertical and dipole will help much, if at all. The best way to go on 43 meters is a well constructed half wave cut for 6920 khz, and up as high as you can get it! The signals emanate perpendicular to the wire and are highly directional, so the orientation of the half wave determines how well you will be heard in a particular direction.
Yeah No problem man! Thank you for telling me that the splitter may not do well so I don't have to rebuild anything. But yeah I have a half wave dipole cut to a 1.5 swr on 6920. One end is up 11 or 10 meters, the other is up 3.6 meters and it sloping towards the east coast, but I get the best coverage perpendicular to that, so up towards west Canada. I cannot flip it due to my small lot and HOA restrictions. I think a vertical should maybe do better? But yeah I need to find a way to get my tube amplifier to run at full power then reaching you will be no problem.

UNID 6920 AM 1042 UTC 30 NOV 2021

Very weak signal - playing music - fades in and out. Better signal on vertical antenna.

UPDATE 11:43Z and it seems to be fading out - a few other folks have copy further West in North America so am thinking that this station (maybe?) located West of Fl ... local sunrise here soon .... will update if anything changes - still no ID

12:31Z - barely detectable carrier with no discernible audio - no ID but one post here indicates that it may be Radio Pushka(?)
located on the east coast, East of Texas.

;) :D yup its me lol. Back to the dance floor.

:DYay thank you! Skipmunk, any idea of what you heard or how the song sounded like? Yeah I am currently on a dipole and my stupid stretchy man transmitter doesn't have enough power to drive my 1kw tube amp. I am probably like 100 watts carrier maybe. But once my final exams are over i will install a splitter on my antenna system and run the vertical and the dipole at the same time to hopefully get more gain. Is it worth it though, will that help?

I am currently building a 30 watt PEP transmitter for 16MHz. The frequency will be 16.000 MHz or around there depending on the drift of the xtal. Unfortunately thats the only xtal I currently posses for that band. Antenna will be a vertical three element collinear, 12.5 meters tall or so, I will have to adjust it once I build it. My hope is to cover Russia and SE Asia with this setup, may get and stack some cheap Chinese amplifiers to facilitate my goal. If things go well I may move to this band and get a proper xtal for 19 meter broadcast band. But must likely i will have both transmitters running simultaneously.
Thank you for logging my station! much appreciation to those who helped me!
I may not make an qsl cards though because my computer is broken and I am very busy.

Thank you guys!
Its a great honor to know that i am getting out so good.

40
Yeah man thank you!
I broadcast 24/7, so I am just going to spend some 300 dollars on a 1kw amp and sneak it on without my parents noticing.
Until they see the next electricity bill. :D  You are using 15 Watts still at this point?

I am looking at 4000 khz as well as the 20 meter band and gonna make beacons for both bands with practical antennas and see which one i like best.
Yeah I just use a NanoVNA to find resonance and SWR.

All good.

Yeah I was using probably like 20 watts carrier, now doing 75 watts :D. Tommorrow hopefully gonna get some crystals to make a 20 meter band beacon. Lol I am tired, I am very busy from college, sorry for not responding on time and bad english. was writting this at midnight.

41
Thank you guys!
yeah HF conditions are meh today. Who is on 6925? Sometimes they are weak, sometimes strong. I was actually running 75 watts carrier today.

42
Thank you very much!
Will send qsl when i have time, been busy lately.

Thank you for logging! Yes I check your SDR and I know I can hear my station on there. ID is Radio Pushka. I really need more power. I am happy its getting that far though. I am in Arizona, so long hop.

Thank you very much for logging! Hows the music?
