Spy Numbers / Re: QSL?
« on: August 02, 2013, 2212 UTC »
In 1999 I was on Radio Havana's mailing list and would frequently get cards on New years & even on my birthday. One night I left my DX 392 recording "DX'ers unlimited" on 6000 khz & a few minutes into the recording the audio dropped out for a couple of minutes & was replaced with V02 numbers. I didn't actually play the recording until a few days later. I copied it onto a blank tape & enclosed the tape, $5.00 and a friendly letter feigning ignorance at what the curious numbers were and asking for a qsl. They never responded & never again did I get a birthday card or anything else from them.

You got on Pedro's bad list.

Also noted here during the same time period.

Very strange, indeed.

SDR recording catch.

0442 sign on, Comedy bit of some sort, an OM talking in a high pitch voice? Then singing.
0444 Off

0448 Back On, YL talking? Then some instrumental music. "We need to go down to the cellar" ?
0453 "I have the power!" then off

0641 Back on again, sounds like the same program as 0442.
0648 Off

0657 Back on
0701 Off

Based on the program content I would guess PPVR but pure speculation, no ID heard.

SDR recording catch.

About S6 with some peaks to S8, very tough with adjacent RFW until they went QRT. Then just plain tough. Audio was somewhat distorted as well. Off at 0227.

SDR - Software Defined Radio / Re: HackRF, 30 MHz to 6 GHz SDR
« on: August 02, 2013, 1348 UTC »
Hmm... Interesting. But... it looks like another 8 bit A/D SDR?   I guess these design decisions are being made for cost reasons, but it really does impact performance. I asked someone far more knowledgeable than me about this, and he said "meh... nothing interesting, wideband RTL quality"

The transmit part is probably the most interesting, and the 8 bit A/D is still useful for strong signals. As described, bluetooth, Wifi, etc. Sadly probably more useful for nefarious purposes than radio hobbyist stuff.

Fair to good signal with some t-storm static.
Opened with "Another 5 minute mystery"

Thanks for the show!

SDR catch, 0347 sign on with Wilbury's End of the Line.
Good signal overall, with just some static crashes.

Thanks for the show!

FYI: I just got a notification from Mouser that the 2N1711 is now in "End of Life" stage. Better stock up if you use this transistor!

SDR recording catch. 0224 sign on into an old advertisement, some condiment for sandwiches. Tough copy with the static levels, about an S7 signal.
