9765   VOIRI via Sirjan. Japanese at 2140, poor signal and a NF. Runs parallel with 11965 via Sirjan, which was also a poor signal and also a NF for this service, Apr 4.

9490  VOA - Umm al-Rimam. The French service to Af at 2100-2130 is now scheduled as operating from Kuwait (ex Moepeng Hill, Botswana) and noted here with a very good signal. At 2130, the transmitter site changes to Ascension for the Bambara language to WAf till 2200, but that had a much weaker signal from that time onwards, Apr 4.

5066.38 kHz CONGO D.R. R. Candip - Bunia. French programming with talks and occasional short local music selections. Weak signal at 1823 in the atmospherics. Only occasionally heard here at Mount Evelyn and always good to catch it again. Feb 21.  :)

PREPARING FOR YOUR NEXT DXPEDITION - Part 1
One of the joys of listening to shortwave radio is going portable - setting up the gear in a completely different location to discover what reception is like in some other part of the country (or indeed, the world!). Last December, I wrote an article for The Spectrum Monitor on this very topic. It's my own particular "take" on this fun part of the radio hobby. 4920   INDIA. AIR - Chennai. I caught the 5 min English news and anncts at 1730. Back into Hindi at 1735 until s/off 1741. Fair signal but QRM from co-channel PBS Xizang, Feb 13.

17895   VATICAN. VOA - SM Galeria. English service to Af at 1633 with pop music programming. A strong signal in a band that was mostly deserted at this time, Feb 13.

17850   FRANCE. Oromo Voice Radio (Raadiyoo Sagalee Oromoo) - Issoudun. Noted at 1620 with long talks in the Oromo language and beamed to EAf. Not much of a s/off ceremony. No clear ID, no music….just stopped, and the transmitter was switched off as soon as it hit 1630. Fair signal but with some deep fades at times. Oromo service is scheduled Weds and Sats. Feb 13.
