Some food for thought;
https://www.okdxf.eu/lankford/Measurements%20Of%20Some%20Loop%20And%20Vertical%20S%20to%20mmN%20Ratios.pdf

"LF AM stations from Eu.. 160 Khz to 200 KHz. Any evening I can hear 3 or 4 of these on the Lankford vertical array, sometimes even 6 or 7 of these stations, and often at S6 or 7 comfortable listening levels. I CAN NOT EVEN DETECT THEM ON ANY OTHER ANTENNA ! You want a demo of low noise receive methods ?  This is it !  BTW, my receivers are an  IC7700, K3 and mint condition R390A, although the R390A and K3 don’t go down to the LF band. This is with 2 small 15 foot whips, 60 feet apart, fed with speaker wire, on a small urban lot. Power lines all around, crap ground, lots and lots of negative antenna influences. The array is influenced by nearby antennas, something I cannot do much about. But it still works in a highly remarkable fashion.

160M, 80M and 40M ham signals.. very good reception with the Lankford verticals. In all cases, there is less noise and improved intelligibility on weak signals compared to any other antenna. On 160M, it compares favourably or better than the K9AY, although it is more convenient to use the K9AY because of the simple K9AY switching direction system. My Lankford array requires tweaking the phaser controls, plus the null from this 2 element array is bi directional and can only be moved through 180 degrees. The SWA has the capability of  moving a 360 degree very deep null towards the noise source you don’t want. This can be effective, but takes quite a bit of fiddling to make it work. "

Rumour has it to look for 9600Bd fsk on 401.5 when it's in range. If you record audio or i/q from the bird, please share.

 HF TDoA multilateration (2)
This is an update to the last blog post where propagation delays from VOACAP are used in addition to great-circle-derived propagation delays.

As VOACAP provides a number of propagation modes (MODE=25) the mode which is most close to the measured time difference is used.

NanoVNA V2’s Now for Sale on eBay and Tindie

We've received a few notices that the NanoVNA V2 design that we've been following since last year is now available for sale on eBay and Tindie (or Taobao if you live in China). The original official sales appear to have been from Tindie, where it is priced at $58.25 + shipping, although it is now out of stock. On eBay resellers are selling it for up to $150. If you're interested in purchasing the V2 we recommend entering your email into the Tindie form as they will notify you when it's back in stock. Initial reviews posted on the Tindie store indicate that the unit has excellent performance for the price so we expect that it will be popular enough to manufacture many more in the future.

Link11 on hf is for los or near los only, not distant over the horizon like typical hf comms, wich is odd because they also have a uhf version of the protocol. I think they cover a cbg with it and that's all they want from it. The link sig might be strong enough for those within los to be unaware if the other signal.
Thus the jammers dilemma, how to jam the jam resistant.

Equipment / Re: Deoxit recommendation
« on: April 30, 2020, 1818 UTC »
If the contacts are silver, and likely blackened aka silver oxide, silver oxide is almost as conductive as polished silver. I don't know what deoxit you need, but you don't want something soaking into the wafers making them conductive. Tuner lube and the like has ruined many a radio in that manner.

Thanks, interesting and I'd not considered skin depth in rg6 on hf, will have to reevaluate the coax runs now.

I looked in the usual places and find nothing related to freqs, but some discussion on the sat overall.
https://twitter.com/fab_hinz/status/1253808176664727552

That said, it's a cubesat, based on HAM sat technology, and likely with the intent of proving a lifter for nuclear or other wmds. They might be using freqs of past Iranian launches, or HAM freqs, but someone will find it if it's emitting at all.

Narrowing the bw will also give a slight increase in range, for those stations that can match that bw on rx.

Amateur Radio / Re: A 6M rivival here locally? Maybe.
« on: April 27, 2020, 1946 UTC »
There was talk on a local rptr earlier today about a move to 70cm, 2m, and 6m ssb and simplex fm due the lack of hf propa of late. Apparently there's much more activity up there than usual.

Very nice on link11 tie in. Being the "jammer" in question is possibly naval in origin, using a dsb signal where link11 (used by most every NATO navy) is often sent in isb, the jamming might be at least somewhat effective. While they're not overtly jamming right now the use of the jammer precludes running link11 on those freqs, and allows the jammer to test for typical coverage. But who knows, could be some bored gopniks with an old transmitter.
