I've been hearing DW for a few hours here at home and it's currently reporting

BAT 13.0  oTMP  80  iTMP 88   PV  1

From the bunk of my campervan with my Belka-DX and set-top whip. About 14 miles north of Durango, CO at 7800 feet. DW was about an S2.

1005z (0405 MDT) 12.9V, itmp 63, itmp 72, pv 1

Again, that's a pretty iconic image in my head of a guy laying in the bunk with a small radio to listen to HF!

I've been to that area a number of times and usually camp closer to Silverton but where you are there are some nice places to pull out along with public campgrounds and small lakes. Hope you are having great weather!

HF Beacons / Re: 2097.3 kHz. "A" Beacon Returns...Again...
« on: May 21, 2022, 1448 UTC »
From the bunk of my campervan (can't sleep) about 14 miles north of Durango, CO. At 1002z (0402 MDT), the A beacon  was an S2-S3 on my Belka-DX with set-top whip.

I don't have a way to precisely zero-beat the signal, which is why I don't quote the frequency, but it is close to 2097.3 KHz.

When I have access to receivers such as SDRs with their GPS referenced time base I like to track the drift of pirate beacons. My old NRD-525 also leads me to also round up the indicated frequency as it has less digits displayed plus the manual VFO introduces a bit of uncertainty too.

I get a big signal from 6-7 am and in the low level periods I go to KFS. Temps are heating up out there so i hope all of the desert beacons do well.

at 10:39 AM

4095.700 KHz DW with s7 signal. BAT  14.0  oTMP 88  iTMP  95  PV 586 mA

I've noticed the battery spends more time in the 14 volt range during the day charge cycles. In the early morning it is usually at 12.9v so it seems healthy.

No reception of CS here at home and on the KFS Omni the signal is low but readable. It's great it is now a regular signal once again.

It appears that the issues at KFS have been resolved. All of the KFS kiwis are now on the latest software revision. One interesting item in the discussion was:

" The KFS site is connected to the Internet by a microwave link which is heavily used by WebSDR listeners as well as by one of the wsprdaeon.org backup servers. I am working both the reduce the network impact of the WD server and to increase the subscription bandwidth of the link."

That's a great logo Jim, and very appropriate!

I heard DW on the 28" set-top whip on my Belka-DX, in the bunk of my campervan at Chaco Canyon, NM. 5/09/2022 at 0703z. S1-S2. bat = 13.0, otmp = 56, itmp = 65, pv = 1

A 28" whip??  That's incredible!

I found a logo for this thread  ;D

Someone from KFS is attempting to fix the issues but it's not fast or easy

HF Beacons / Re: Long Dasher On 4069.4
« on: May 07, 2022, 0434 UTC »
On the KFS omni kiwi the dasher is very strong on 4069.43

There appears to be a small amount of upward frequency shift after keydown. I’d vote for it being a Pirate beacon!

-snip-

Did I see in another thread that this is MojaveBeaconeer's "Coxie"?

4096.0  "Coxie" Slow dasher, about 4.5 seconds, 700 mW, Joshua Tree NP, daytime only with dead battery

I posted the issue to the kiwi sdr forum

Wow, there's something really strange about all 4 of those Kiwis. They're all running v1.509 which is a little old but should be okay. If you look at the javascript console (from the browser) on page load it thinks the variable "cfg.passbands" doesn't exist. That comes from the saved configuration file. Yet if you type "cfg.passbands" into the javascript console input field it appears just fine.

So I don't get it. One of them has been up 10 days, but another less than 24 hours. Maybe they should try updating to the latest software version and see what happens. You'll note there is no waterfall either because of this problem (because the javascript aborts before the page can completely load).
