Caught "Recycle Radio" on 60 meters (just above, I guess?) on the DC based SDR.  Some static, but overall a pretty good signal.

Got this guy from Richfield VT, via an SDR in Washington, DC.  Skip is about 520 miles for this one, coming in S6.

Another good catch off the amateur bands.

This one is W3NT and KB9LUW chatting it up on 20 meters.  2,839 miles and 1,811 miles, respectively, on the skip (to Half Moon Bay, CA).

Managed to pull in the French-language broadcast of Radio France International (from the DC-based SDR), slightly off frequency.  Don't ask me what they're saying....I don't speak French, LOL.  ;)

Great catch on 20 meters for me off the Half Moon Bay CA SDR.

Here, we have Weirton WV checking in...skip being about 2,594 miles.  You can also hear KI5CHB from Montague, TX....about 1,642 miles away on that one.  Both signals were about S5 or so.

Huh? / Re: Mystery of Weird Hum Heard Around the World Solved
« on: January 10, 2020, 2130 UTC »
Mysterious seismic hums detected around the world were likely caused by an unusual geologic event — the rumblings of a magma-filled reservoir deep under the Indian Ocean, a new study finds.

You sure it wasn't Nancy Pelosi singing to herself? LOL!! ;)

An interesting catch for me off the Half Moon Bay CA SDR.

Here, W3PR is giving an update on the aftermath of a major earthquake (6.4 on the Richter Scale) in Puerto Rico.  I assume that it's probably being relayed....but anywho, the report comes in pretty much loud and clear.

A new catch for me off the DC-based SDR.  Radio Romania International is coming in quite well....strong signal here.

General Radio Discussion / Re: WGCH (Greenwich, CT) Off AM Signal
« on: January 07, 2020, 2225 UTC »
Not sure whether this is the right place for this....feel free to move.

A friend of mine that works at the station tells me that WGCH (1490 AM, Greenwich CT) has ceased broadcasting on that frequency (due to "circumstances out of the station's control".  At least for the time being, they are now on 105.5 FM.

Further research reveals that the station is being forced to move their AM transmitter.  Staff was apparently "told to vacate (a small building)...by December 31st".

Wondering if WGCH lost a lease on the building...oh well.  Just a heads up.

My friend confirms that said building has a new owner, and they said "see ya" to WGCH.  Hope they can find a new facility soon.

So here's a strange one....the stronger station here is WSCR, out of Chicago.

There is another station under WSCR (and it's pretty much getting blown away).  I can't quite make out what that station might be, but it seems to be airing some kind of music.  I think it could be classic rock from "Yes"...that's what I think I heard, but I'm not sure.  If this is so, then my best guess would be that this is WLUI out of PA....but that station doesn't appear to be licensed for night broadcasts.

Can anyone help me out on this ID?

WSCR and ?

Another new catch for me, via a Montana-based SDR.  This particular station appears to be KNRS-AM, out of Salt Lake City.  Very good reception...about 485 miles on the hop.
