Hopefully they gave a snail mail address.  In true Masyga tradition, all reception reports should be handwritten illegibly and as unintelligible as possible...  ;D

Holy Retro Chrisman! With those prices they won't be back for long.  But of course, the front panel floats... like magic!

How did you make out with the 735's "diode snip"?  Have fun, and take it one step at a time Jackson... 73!

Geez Gaga - 2 years later?  I have had several good dealings with RF Parts over the years.  Although expensive, they are very knowledgeable and carry excellent, genuine parts.  Several times they have contracted Russian manufacturer Svetlana to manufacture hard-to-find tubes to RF Parts specifications.  Back in my old Garbanzo days I re tubed my old Viking Valiant with 6146Ws that were sourced that way and they worked like champs.  Is this possibly what is going on here?  I'm guessing they saved the addys of all inquiries in anticipation of future sourcing.  Kinda creepy though...  :o

Good stuff Chris!  I bought a Friday night hour long block on 5110 for 3 months during last year's pirate airtime special and "repurposed" WAZU shows from the previous three years to fill the slots.  Like RW, I found Allan and his staff to be very accommodating and easy to work with.  Best of luck with the propagation - and the feedback...

Were you able to find the bathroom on the right?

I'm getting snatches of modulation now and then - some music - some talk - nothing usable.  My Drake is rendering this at 14914.8 also.  More readable for me in USB.  You're getting to upstate NY Dude, but just barely!

Not bad S5 signal but plenty of band noise here.

Geez Pigmeat!  Every time I try to read your post I get to "Kinky Kim's Pomade" and I flash on Kardashian - Yuk!  Too much weed and Mickey's Fine Malt Liquor over the decades I guess...

BTW - I was wondering - all the Kims seem to have THREE names.  So I'm just guessing here - Kim Joyce-Tik?  Kim Ree-Joyce?  Kim Joyce-tudawurld?  Now that Al dumped her is she sparkin' Dennis Rodman?

Please excuse my candor but its been a mighty long dry spell.  I got into pirate radio years ago for all the groupies... silly me...

After reading up more on some of the limitations of the X1M, I've decided to follow ff's original advice and go with a used Icom IC-735.  There's lots of info on the diode cutting mod that will open it up for all band transmit and it certainly sounds like it's a lot more solid unit (not to mention the 100 watt power).  A used one is also about $100 cheaper than the X1M.  The X1M is getting sent back once it arrives.   :)

I've owned two of them over the years - the second one bought on ebay about 7 or 8 years ago.  The diode clip is no big deal.  Don't sweat it.  When this model was first out in the early 90s Icom ballyhooed it as being designed for hour-long keydown times.  Let me assure you- with reasonable care, it will perform admirably for you.  Anteater Radio famously used a 735 to transmit pirate shows from his over-the-road big rig into a MOBILE antenna.  Don't let the small size fool ya... it's robust.  Hopefully you'll get one that's lightly used but if not, the 735 is worth sinking a few more bux into at the local repair shop if its needed.  Good luck to you in your search for a good one....

Fearless, the K-Dawg Fade is the rage in DPRK. It's the "must have" haircut in more ways than one.

Does Great Leader personally process all curly-haired Koreans in the People's Garment Steam Press to achieve that flat, lusterless cereal bowl look - or does he just watch?

His sister Joyce used to date Al.

I hope Joyce has a better barber than her brother has

NORTH Korea dictator Kim Jong-Un could be a BBC Radio 1 fan after statistics revealed one person in the country has been repeatedly viewing the station's YouTube channel.

Could be.  We all know how much he likes to watch things...  :)

But at 5W I wouldn't sweat it.  Game on, Wayne.

JW voiced my feelings underlying all my posts here Jackson.  I would be doing my best to dissuade you from jumping onto the bands with high power before you have a decent understanding about things.  But 5 watts of PEP might get you a few reports here and there, and you shouldn't be pi$$ing off the wrong entities.  Moof voiced another concern of mine about the possible detrimental effects of long keydown periods.  You've gotta keep in mind that most rigs are rated for communications duty.  In other words, a ham might key his mike for maybe a minute at a time and then will be listening for a similar stretch.  But you will be transmitting continuously for much longer than that.  We'll just have to see if the X1M can take that abuse.  One more thing, if you go on to higher power you must have band filtering.  To operate QRO without it is just begging for trouble.  But with 5 watts PEP, probably not.  Have fun, and get some practice soldering, will ya?  You are gonna need it...
