Equipment / Portable Radio Antenna Problem
« on: October 09, 2014, 0529 UTC »
I have this http://www.kaitousa.com/KA1103.htm portable radio and it's entire antenna came out of the socket including the rotating bit. The antenna itself is intact, but I think the socket might be slightly bent. Any ideas?

Equipment / Good Antenna for Raspberry Pi
« on: September 27, 2014, 2215 UTC »
I got a Pi a while back and I've played around with it a bit. I downloaded a program that I can run on it that let's it broadcast on FM and HF spectrum through one of the pins on its board. What would be a good antenna for me to attach to it to broadcast shortwave?

The RF Workbench / Legal Issues

To anyone who currently broadcasts, how do you avoid the FCC/authorities? Have you ever had any trouble? Eventually I would like to get into broadcasting and I was wondering what y'all have to deal with.

Other / UNID 6850 kHz
« on: October 09, 2013, 2134 UTC »
I am currently tuned into a Spanish language station at 6850 kHz. I understand some of what they're saying. They just gave a website it sounded like escuela[something].org Any ideas? Edit: At the end, I could hear them say Radio Mundial and the website was escuelabiblicamundial.org. It turned out to be WWCR's Spanish broadcast before an English one.

Equipment / Suggestions for Equipment
« on: October 09, 2013, 0359 UTC »
I am new to the world of shortwave and pirate radio. I have a Kaito KA321 world radio which works pretty well. I can hear some pirates (I had really great reception of Dr. Benway of Undercover Radio on Sunday). However, it's pretty impossible for me to clearly hear most pirates. I have explored most areas of my house with it and I have now scrolled between the 6.85-7.0 MHz range half a million times. I just hear about 5-7 stations at once. Does anyone have suggestions for equipment, preferably cheap? Alternatively, is there any way to solve this without new equipment? Thanks in advance.
