General Radio Discussion / Re: My "Kinda" legal station
« on: July 28, 2014, 1728 UTC »
With this type of operation (24/7, fixed location, in expensive facilities), you want to be as squeaky clean as possible. You're risking a lot of money and resources when there are legal ways to get what you need.

The carrier-current suggestion is a good idea. Chances are good that you could cover the town this way.

Another suggestion, if carrier current doesn't work or if you still aren't covering all of the town. If you're putting this much into the station, you should be able to upload the audio to the Internet, have a second part-15 transmitter on the same frequency on the opposite side of town and feed both transmitters from the Internet audio feed so that the audio is synched. So long as the transmitters are on exactly the same frequency, the listening transition from the one transmitter to the next should be seamless.

I heard a part-15 station running a small network of transmitters (3, I think) with this general method. I think I heard it across about 10 miles. Also (for those thinking "sure, it was legal . . ."), I talked to a radio engineer who knows this guy. He said he's neurotic about being legal and has requested that FCC agents inspect everything numerous times. They've checked it at least a couple of times & it's always within legal limits.

It sounds like you're off to a great start (and community support for) to your station. Hope it continues to go well!

Decent signal here in heavy static crashes with bits of different music genres, announcements, etc. On & off the air a lot. A couple different announcements in Spanish. I'm thinking this is a pescadore broadcast

Thanks for the tip!

Thunderstorm crashes are making this difficult, but the signal is good for this time of day. I'm hoping to find my headphone adapter so that I can dig out some details from the noise
Thanks for the show!

10/11 meters / Re: HFU SSTV Robot 27700 USB SSTV Activity
« on: July 18, 2014, 2213 UTC »
Not sure how it's been for Chris, but the propagation's been really bad for me. I've left the radio on 27700 kHz USB at least a dozen different days, but I haven't gotten any legible images in a few months

Nice signal with big band music, including "Thanks for the Memories" & "Let's Go Slumming." I've heard four songs so far & no IDs at the breaks.
ID of Germany Calling, taken from the WWII-era broadcasts from the DJx stations. Not sure if this is the pirate Germany Calling or if someone else is reusing those IDs. In the past, the Germany Calling pirate had only used 6940 kHz and AM, not this freq or mode.

Thanks for the show!

North American Shortwave Pirate / Re: 6770.01 OTR???

I've tuned in a number of different days and have never heard anything resembling an ID

0340 UTC: Colgate toothpaste ad & A Day in the Life Of Dennis Day show. Really nice signal again, like it was a couple of weeks ago

Nice catch, DaveJV! Old time radio comedy broadcast, with audience laughter & musical breaks between segments. My guess is that it's the OTR Unid, moved here from 6770. But, of course, someone could also test with OTR shows to make DXers believe that it's the OTR unid  :)

I heard what seems to be the same station last night around 0415, but the audio was really weak here. Decent carrier. Not sure if the audio was just weak or if the signal was coming from a long distance (much like how many Europirates sound at my QTH).

Instrumental guitar music. The needle is sitting at S9+30! FM radio-type ID. Excellent audio
Thanks for the show!

A Day in the Life of Dennis Day, with an ad for Lustre-Creme shampoo, then Dennis Day singing "Danny Boy." Nice to hear back on

Good signal this morning at 1055, playing a Muzak (or Muzak-like) instrumental cover of "The Rose." Heard at 1600 yesterday with a fair/good signal as well.

I have a fairly weak carrier on about 6974.2 or thereabouts. Is this you?

Sounded really good tonight when I tuned in around 2340. Last night around 0400, the op went from an OTR war mystery show into old EZL music

1649
Heard here 0333-0343* with VG signal & excellent audio. I have a recording if the op is interested.
Thanks for the show!

A bit weaker than normal here and some Ute noise. Requesting reports & e-mails to add & HFU.
Thanks for the show!
