Excellent signal into upstate South Carolina - SINPO 44444 with only slight, slow QSB.

Heard at startup with:

23:55 - Tom Petty - Last DJ
23:58 - Bush - Glycerine

Radio: IC-718
Antenna: 400-foot longwire @40 feet

0004z VERY nice signal here too into NC TExas - S4 to S6 signal and very little QRN

Other / carrier 6915 2110z
« on: July 14, 2010, 2120 UTC »
7/12/10
6913 kHz
Steady carrier since 2306z, doesn't seem to be a heterodyne from some other station.  Nothing audible.  In the clear because WYFR's Spanish language programming sked on 6915 was temporarily off air.
2320z: WYFR returned on 6915, wiped out 6913 altho' carrier still audible on 6913.

2110z / 4:10 PM CDT Carrier, no modulation, less than S1, on 6915 kHz started at/prior to 2110z ... this is prior to the 'big show' firing up on same frequency in a little while ... IOW, engineering looks to be performing some on-the-air testing, carrier only.

Now seeing some *wild* cyclical signal fluctuations up to S4 ... just repeated ...

2130z still present ... S3 signal peaks, carrier only.

336
and off at 0205z ... maybe ...

TNX OR

0207z Is this the exciter now? Or with the amplifier bias adjusted?

(I don't think he can let go)

The following are guesstimates on xmtr performance (using ear alone, no test equip):

THD: Probaby 8 to 10%

IMD/3rd order products: -25 dB

0212z Possible sign-off coming up ... playing My Country Majesty now ...

0215z Fini ... TNX OR

No PA tube huh ... Icom IC-4KL ? Not a IC-4KL either huh ...

Okay ... how many LDMOS transistors in the final stage .. is it high-level or low-level modulated AM?

Response: 'Not that many' ... since he won't say ...

Real response: " I know nothing! "

0204z OR, playing 'hard to get' on answering Q's about his xmtr, his PA stage, etc ...

Good pgm OR, a little distorted, high IMD on pgm audio, but good content ... thanks.

338

0144z  Outhouse Radio sez: "we thought you would enjoy that relay of Cool Radio"

0148z Pgm continues: "Bird bird bird, bird is the word ..."

339
I hear NO-THINK.

0126z I think you've just been 'called out' by OR Mighty Camel ...

0138z Pgm continues ...

OR - pgm audio is seeing high IMD values (flat-topping, cross-over distortion et al - are the PA tubes showing anything brighter than a dull red?)

340
Outhouse Radio?

That's what my ears heard ... will verify next ID ...

0121z ... verified ...

0058z signal dropped like a rock - could have been receiving via grayline propagation ... 0059z picking back up slightly now

344
more to follow

Carrier approx 6931.6

0053z and - carrier gone now ... missed ID, was fiddling with tuning

0054z .. back ...

There is enough FM'ing of the carrier, that, LSB or USB demodulation yields a really funky sound ... AM demod is the way to go ...

I should add, with that much FM on the carrier AMS (AM-Synchronous) on the WinRadio WR-G303e _won't lock_ !

You're reporting contact, I'm reporting 'no contact'; it has value as far as validating prop (propagation) conditions ...

No?
