Geez... Where you are would be a HAM's, even a Part #15 AM station op's, dream. Not to pirate, since the Anchorage FCC Office has a reputation of being really tough on that. Question is, does Tatalina Air Force Base, right near you, have a local AM / FM station? Why do I ask? When I was up in Eielson AFB in July 1985, I was told about an on-base 10W AM station that they had, and was shown the antenna, side-mounted, from ground up, on a 20-something ft wooden utility pole. I never did hear that station on-air in operation while I was there, though. So, that was disappointing. Still, interesting stations that you are catching up there. Just keep all of those mosquitoes.

Oh yeah... I certainly remember the morning of 9/11/2001, since I was on the road to my Grandpa's funeral in Buffalo, NY. Needless to say, 930WBEN was exciting to listen too right then, as my family and I did. However, I was sleep deprived from staying up all night, 9/10/2001, for big night on the then Art Bell's Coast To Coast AM, when his guest was Andrew Yoder, on the subject of Pirate Radio, mainly the shortwave scene. I stayed up to record off-air the whole thing off of WHTK 1280AM. (I did the same with the Pat Murphy interview as well.) I thought that it all went well, Art got to tune-in to what may have been his 1st pirate station on shortwave, He Man Radio doing the broadcast for the occasion. Art actually aired several pirate ID's and actually aired a full skit from The Voice Of Laryngitis, as well as promote Hobby Broadcasting Zine. Also, a mention of Number Stations that Art has tuned-in to before. I was actually happy with the whole show, then the events of what happened a few hours later totally erased everything. Andrew's thunder was really sniff-out, for sure. Certainly glad that I did the off-air records, and they were on-line on a couple of sites. Are they still? So, even though the terrible events to the twin towers changed everything in America, and even the World, the night before, 9/10/2001, turned out to be the radio event that was, then all of a sudden, wasn't.

CW might be the best way to QSO on 160M with smaller antennas, and 100W, or less. That, and maybe FT8. My experience on 160M is, unless you pound them with at least an S20/9 signal, they don't seem to want to have much to do with you. They call it 'The Gentleman's band', but I see it more as a band of smugness. Just my take. One of the reasons that I like the newer 60M band. You are on par with everyone else at 100W, or less. That, and 60M is open 24/7 to somewhere.

Huh... Even with all those lightning crashes, even being heard up to 10MHz, last night at 06:30UTC, ops on 1880kHz LSB were back on rag chewin'. And, all were coming in from S5 to S9. I guess that's a sign of Fall. Saturday night, I also heard that Gateway News 160M AM at 1860kHz, WA0RCR, at S10/9 - S20/9 signal. http://www.wa0rcr.com/

Part 15 AM and FM Station Operation / Part #15 TX'ing on the 11M Int BC Band?

Question... With all that mostly unused spectrum in the 11M International Broadcast band, from 25.670MHz - 26.100MHz, has anyone tried actual Part #15 tests and broadcasts there? About the only thing that I hear down there, anymore, are CB outbanders. I haven't heard those broadcast auxiliary FM stations there for a couple of years, at least. Yeah... Sucks about the Part #15 FS limit of 30uV, measured at 30M, (If I read that right.), but it would be interesting to see just how much of an area that could actually cover.

Huh... Testing a repaired Uniden Pro510XL CB, so today I woke up to several stations shooting skip on AM CH's 28, 27, 11, 1, , Superbowl 6, and 38LSB. Couple from AR and AZ, but most were from S. CA and around San Diego.So, must be mild F2 coming back in there, but must also be the power hungry 'Big-Guns' that were heard. Some of them at 9lbs.

Wanted to see if CFRX on 6070kHz was coming in around at 3AM, or 07:00UTC, and it didn't, but skipped over me. However, at 07:03UTC, was a weak station, jammin' modern folk MX, on 6080kHz. No ID heard. Any cues???
UPDATE9/5/2021: Oh... It's VOA. Pretty solid S5 at 04:00UTC, so must be a domestic TX.

Well, with CB now finally allowed for use on USA CB's, question stands, what channels to use FM on? My proposal would be the Gentleman's Agreement, like what was done with SSB, (a.k.a. Channels 36 - 40 for SSB, CH16 on the old 23 channel rigs.). My idea would be to reserve channels 30 - 35 for FM use. Think that it would fly? Of course, this could depend upon local regional options. Case in point, I understand that the Highway Channel in Alaska is CH14, and not CH19, up there. Passing thoughts...
