Generally sunrise and sunset listening hours are trashed here by local solar grid tie inverters firing up, wandering the 2 MHz spectrum with +40 dB peaks of noise. Thank goodness for SDRs!

HF Beacons / Re: New beacon on 4095.16? MUDDUCK?

Coincidentally, when listening to DX on the CB band, I often hear a guy with the handle Mud Duck Radio, with a QTH in the "desert southwest".

Maybe it's the guy in the desert or.... may be even closer to you, lol

Once I was down on one of the Fiji Islands and tuned across the CB band. There was quite the pile up coming out of America!

Token believes it to be a once in a while pirate station (KPZL) that shows up around new years, tries transmitting here and there to "puzzle" listeners and then it goes off the air.

HF Beacons / Re: Increased Beacon Activity Around 4.095 MHz??

I copied KPZL on New Years and that was interesting but ultimately it was a flash in the pan. TCO's CW seemed far slower than KPZL's but I've already erased my recording of KPZL so I don't have any proof.

It was TCO and that was good luck to have caught it too. It appears to be off the air right now but am hoping it is a night time only beacon and not some random electrical failure.

I'm rooting for it to come back. We've had far too many new beacons get caught up in infant mortality issues. Wish I could help them all recover and stay on the air.

I just checked LGB and it had a fair signal on the KFS Omni
