Unidentified station playing what sounds like East European or Middle-Eastern Music. Perhaps Arabic.

With the closedown of many VOA-sponsored stations, this one is a mystery to me.

SINPO: 33243

Has anyone any idea what it is?

Hey just curious if anyone has suggestions. I have the airspy hf + discovery but don't even get a mhz. How is the SDRPlay? I see it gets 10mhz, but i worry it would let too much in...plus the bit depth is significantly lower. Maybe just another airspy? I dunno. I often find myself wanting to tune 2 different portions of the spectrum.

I just noticed this thread, so sorry for late response.

Since you ask about the SDRPlay, I use a SDRPay RSPdx and find it to be a very good receiver, assuming you have a decent antenna. It can display and record up to 10 Mhz slice of the band - more than enough to cover a single band - and covers all of the HF bands with no gaps - 1kHz-2Ghz. By using it with SDRUno, it serves me very well for reception. I also use it with SDR Console 3, with which I can record up to 10 MHz slice of the band and play it back later to find anything I've missed.

The dx SDRs have three antenna inputs - two sma for the full range and one BNC for frequencies up to 200Mhz. They are also have design improvements for use at frequencies below 2MHz. This makes them very useful for MW DXing.

If you want to tune 2 different portions of the spectrum, you could consider the SRDPlay Duo - it is essentially two tuners in one.

I've been receiving this one for quite a while now but haven't been able to identify it. At certain times of the day, it broadcasts the Russian national anthem on a loop for half an hour at a time folloewd by a data stream.

I'm assuming its some kind of utility or military station.

Shortwave Broadcast / INID, 9835 kHz, 1600 UTC, 20 Mar 2025

Unidentified and unlisted station broadcasting on VOA Radio Ashna's former frequency of 9835KHz. I caught it about 1550. It is very strong in UK, indicating it could be Wooferton but is simply playing one tune over and over - like an interval signal.

Does anynone have any idea what it is or where it originates?

Very disappointing. I can't get any broadcasts from VOA today, I think they have shut down.

Their website (https://www.voanews.com/ and https://voa.gove/) is still up as of now but who knows for how long. The latest post on it is from March 15, 2025 1:13 AM (I'm assuming its UTC but could be a US time zone).

Let's hope the BBC steps up to take the slack. People in oppressed countries need independent, or at least alternative news sources.

A dreadful day for SW broadcast radio.
