Yeah! And it's one thing to catch it with longwire & fancy rx but another level of satisfaction altogether to snag it on a portable with only the whip. Sweet! :)

HF Beacons / Re: blinky 5157.60

I was listening on 5157 two nights ago, figuring that being in FL it should be an easy catch--if not exactly 'DX'--and heard a signal in and out of the noise that sounded like a repeating, frequency-swept swooping/pulsing sound with a fast sweep rate, like "choop, choop, choop..." kind of like a police siren as heard from a great distance, or another way of putting it, somewhat like a dripping faucet, repeated at about 1 or 2 Hz. Was this indeed 'Blinky' I was hearing?

HF Beacons / OK in FL

Aug. 29, 0730 UTC (0330 local DST) Location South-Central FL. OK @ +/- 3449 kHz in and out of the noise, about S7 on peaks, to barely audible on fades but even then could be discerned 80% of the time. RX: Grundig G6 Aviator, using only its built-in whip antenna, and indoors to boot! Just whipped it out for a quick scan and wasn't really expecting to hear anything beacon-wise, so I'm quite impressed.

P.S. I'd be curious to know some specs of this beacon, like antenna type & power output.
