General Radio Discussion / Re: Rolling QRM - Grow Lights RFI?
« on: November 26, 2018, 1450 UTC »
Adding caps is a good idea, THANKS! Three .01uF 5kv disk caps between each of the AC lines might help. Probably not room for anything bigger. The "light" is a 300W bank of LEDs.

Does anyone know of any way to cure the RFI? I have a 300W light and have to turn it off when listening to the radio. I've tried putting a couple of 31 ferrites on the AC cord at the light and it didn't help at all.

You may want to hold onto your Icom if you use it as a VHF/UHF scanner. I have not run across any good SDR scanning software that lets you save specific scan frequencies. You'll probably need an RS-232 to USB adapter.

Try adding a loop on the ground (LoG) to help with the noise. This will also improve your DX reception. If you are only interested in 6925, use 20 feet of wire (5 foot sides). If you also listen to 80m and MW, use the 15 foot sides.

Search ebay for $75 QRM Eliminator X-Phase. I have one and it works well.
