General Radio Discussion / What's a "Pestador"?
« on: June 01, 2014, 0249 UTC »
Please be patient with my newby ignorance here.  I've been DXing on and off for around fifteen years and never actually came across the term "pesky" or "pestador".

I've tried through my own deduction to narrow it down.  I'm guessing LSB Ham operators from Mexico?

In Iraq, my buddy and I could pick up a very clear signal of Voice of Korea's nightly two hour "Engrish" broadcast.  I'm serious, that was some of the funniest stuff I've ever endured.  We'd also get an hour or two out of Tehran.  It was scarier, alot of America and Euro-hate.

Whoa.  Meteor storm???

Being in the military myself, I heard a story (2nd hand unfortunately) about the lock-up room where some of the Roswell stuff is under guard.

S3 signal here in Iowa, but alot of static crashing.  There happens to be some isolated little storms peppering the midwest right now.  Anyhow, I've gotten to where I can kind of tell BOR when I hear it  ;) because I dig the music.

Great story.  I'm new to this forum, but I see the community here is very cozy, relaxed and mature.  Looking forward to more posts in this thread.

Thanks.  I've got a handful of books from Amazon too that spell out and help with alot of technical issues.  Those links are great.  :)

Is there a comprehensive list (sticky post or otherwise) that has some good web resources on where to get started?

Thx!

Listening to my first little handheld Radioshack shortwave when I was around 18 or 19 years old.  Started listening to Art Bell late nights (an avid Ham enthusiast himself) and my interest really flourished.  While on my second tour in Iraq (2008) I helped set up and operate the only MARS station in Iraq with a guy aptly named "Captain Hammer".

Here's the link from ARRL.

My best friend and I would sit up late and listen to Voice of Korea which provided two hours of non-stop laughs at all the Engrish "Bush Hate".  Voice of Tehran was easy to pick up too and also had alot of bizarre english broadcast stuff.  We'd also pick up tons of numbers stations that came in very clear.  At night, it was some strange stuff broadcast out of Europe (repeating female voice inviting listeners to call an 800 number).  Since then, my interest has continued to grow.

Hope to have my own personal...radio station  ;) some day.

I'm still picking this show up crystal clear.  This is the most fun I've ever had listening to radio.  Rock on WRR!!!

QSL?  ;)

S9 here in Iowa!  This is the best night of pirate listening I've ever had.  I wish WRR was on every night!!!

Evening all!  My first post here.  Anyhow, I'm picking up this show almost as clear as a decent FM station!  Have an Icom R75 attached to my house's rain gutters.  The trippy monologue reminds me of Terrance McKenna's dimethyltriptamine stuff from years ago.  Great show!  Starting to love Fridays.  :)
