10/11 meters / Re: 11m Band Activity 24 AUG 2023
« on: August 24, 2023, 2026 UTC »
Nice to see 10/11M open again. Worked several stations in Europe recently on 10 and heard lot's of activity on 11M into the UK as well as coast to coast. Same with 12 meters.

Amateur Radio / 6M Band opening (6/22)
« on: June 25, 2023, 1614 UTC »
Caught the tail end of a band opening on 6M. Worked PA (KB3RHR) and MI (W8JER) on 50.130 at 23:48 from Central Florida (EL98). 100 watts and a dipole. Of course they were doing the heavy lifting. Gotta check 6 more often. I heard a little activity today, but it was very weak. I just bought a hex beam, but I have to prime/paint the arms and get it up on the rotator. That should help a good bit.

I just want to know if the RSP1 has potential to be a decent receiver for FM broadcast DX or if I should get another receiver if I'm going to pursue FM dxing and get a directional antenna for it. Thanks

I guess I missed it. The band was dead by the time I got home. As far as DX goes, only hearing one CW station out of Chile. 12 is dead also.

SDR - Software Defined Radio / Using RSP1 for FM broadcast DX
« on: January 31, 2023, 1534 UTC »
I was wondering what you guys thought about using a RSP1 for FM broadcast DX? I just got one and it doesn't seem that great for FM broadcast so far, but I know very little about the filtering settings etc on SDRuno to make it better. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Haven't had much time for radio lately, but did manage to work a JA station on 10M CW on Saturday and New Caledonia on 12M SSB last night, lot's of other DX stations on both bands with large pile up's. Always great to see the higher bands open.

Please report any activity you hear on VHF. I'm not really set-up for 2M SSB, but have been listening on my RSP receiver with a vertical (Not great) Hearing one CW beacon about 25 miles from my QTH. Nothing on 6M at all using my HF rig.

Thank you for your welcoming Uncle John!

Currently receiving Radio Thailand in English on 13.750 @ 0:20. Scheduler says it's coming from Udon Thani. Signal is 5/9+20. Has anyone else been receiving this lately? I'm quite surprised to be getting such a strong signal from that part of the world.

Amateur Radio / Re: Mobile hamstick vs tuning 102' whip
« on: December 05, 2022, 1943 UTC »
That's really interesting. I've always thought that the concept of 75M mobile is pretty crazy, but that gives me some hope. I'd be really excited to be successful on 20M. I actually went out on my lunch break to get a piece of copper tubing, along with 2 - 3/8-24  bolts and nuts. Going to make my own 54'' 'Hustler' mast. Might use the left overs to make a small piece to add to my 102'' whip to make an extension for no coil 12M operation.

Thanks for the feedback. I also checked out that website. Lot's of great information. I have been looking at the Hustler mobile mast and resonators a bit also. I'll play around for a bit on 10/12 meters with the whip, for the time being, and experiment with other antennas as I go along. The mobile operation will just be here and there. The 17' telescoping whip would be great when stationary. May even get a Wolf River coil at some point. I'll get a feel for the G90 using my current outdoor dipoles and vertical before going portable or mobile.
