FM Free Radio / FM Pirate Stations in Chicago?
« on: December 14, 2012, 2351 UTC »
Living faily close to the Windy City, I have tried, without success, to capture an FM pirate. Chicago has so many licensed broadcasters, and student stations, (college & high school) it's pretty tangled up. As I recall there was one FM pirate on the city's south side that was busted years ago, but for the life of me, can't find on in the here and now.

Has anyone else in the Chicagoland area caught a broadcast, recently? You'd think there might be 1 or 2 floating around.

BTW, just got through reading Sue Carpenter's book "40 Watts From Nowhere" about her Pirate FM stations in California. It was a fast read, and thought it was pretty interesting. She received "The Knock" after boosting the watts. Any feedback on this book?

Possibly a new Pirate Testing tonight?

Hope the following helps...

23:43  Song Punk Rock ///// Your signal here in Illinois was about an S4 out of a S3 floor. Really in the mud
23:45  New song
23:46  Lost Signal Completely
23:52  You came back on with new song-- However you signal had a considerable boost. S7 out of S3 floor
23:56  Your signal abruptly stopped
23:59  You signal was back with new Punk song,  You signal dropped to an S6, peaking at an S7
00:06  ID SLR8?  RLR8? Really could hear but for me the ID letters were said too quickly) 1-2 Sec spacing might have helped
00:08  New ID  The number "8" was very clear.
00:10  Female as part of song "I want it"  Repeated 6-7 more times) S6
00:11  ID heard Anncd. "Accelerator" 2 times
00:13 off air.

Hope this helps! Signal was in mud about the first 10 minutes. Whatever you adjusted for the remainder of the program, significant boost to signal.

Thanks for the Show!   ...Steve

North American Shortwave Pirate / Re: The 6914.5 Mystery Continues
« on: December 06, 2012, 1906 UTC »
Yesturday (12/05) at approximately 2250 UTC on 6915 I heard F speaking in Spanish for about 30 seconds and heard mention of horse races in Kentucky. She did not sound like any professional broadcaster as her voice was monotone and flat. There was a brief series of bells and they were gone.
