"Don't Stop Believing" when I tuned in at 0005 UTC.  Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" at 0006.  Good signal in NY.

Signal is coming in much better now for me at 2335 UTC with "Season of the Witch". SDRPlay has locked on 6934.98 kHz for me.  Good signal and audio in NY, some fading.  "Riders in the Sky" at 2344 UTC.  Awesome audio!  "Ghost Town" 2347 UTC.  Band is starting to go long for me, signal fading out at 2355 UTC, right after "Psycho Killer".

Tuned in at 2323 UTC, "Welcome to My Nightmare" in progress.  Good AM signal in NY. My SDRPlay wants to lock on 6872.94 ish.  Nice wide audio too!  Off at 2339 UTC, right after e-mail address and demonic laughter.  Very enjoyable Halloween show, thanks!

SDR - Software Defined Radio / Re: Thinking of getting a SDR

Brian, at a minimum you're going to need an SMA male to UHF female SO-239 adapter and a shielded USB cable with ferrite chokes.  Since you're likely to buy the SDRplay from HRO (they're on sale right now), they also offer the adapter: http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-014408
http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-008512

The USB cable you can buy on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1zkgFTQ

Depending on your location, you may suffer from overload from AM stations, so you might  also need a BCB filter.

There's a bit of a learning curve, especially if this is your first SDR.  Fortunately, there's a very active support community for the SDRPlay, this page has some links to the various software guides, "cookbooks", and the Facebook page: http://www.sdrplay.com/windows.html  (look on the side under "Community Information")

Can you either describe or post some photos of how you connected your coax to the center of the dipole?  One of the most basic ways to build a dipole can be found here:  http://www.cdagro.com/general/dpo.html

Basically, you need 3 insulators (one for each of the two ends and one for the center).  The insulators don't have to be store bought, you can make some out of PVC pipe.  You connect the braid of the coax to one leg, and the center conductor to the other leg.  A clear diagram of this can be found on the ARRL website:
http://www.arrl.org/images/view/Licensing__Education_/Getting_on_the_Air/ARRL0113.jpg

What are you suspending the antenna from, and is the antenna relatively in the clear?

The original Free Radio Network website had some great technical information.  Fortunately, some of it is still accessible via the "Wayback Machine".  You should probably read the entire "Pirate Radio Survival Guide", one archived link is here:

About an S8 here in NY, coming in loud and clear.  Some CW followed by SSTV at 2156 UTC.  "Live and Let Die" at 2204 UTC.

174
Sorry I missed this; it's not often you hear Hungarian techno and hip hop on the radio.

175
Just tuned in at 1609 with "Monkey Man" in progress.  1610 utc, "This is Doctor ....." followed by JA with "A Song for all Seasons".  S8 level in NY, great audio.

Daniel,

Do you have any contact info for the station, and operating times?  The link to the blog didn't have any info.  Thanks.

Song with male vocals, sounds a bit like Creedence Clearwater Revival at 2322 tune-in.  S7 signal, but the band is noisy for me.  Another pop song at 2324 UTC. "Stir it Up" at 2330 UTC.

I've got them too at 1247 UTC with Pete Murphy's "Cuts You Up".  S7 signal in NY, but the band is nice and quiet.

Tuned in at 0005 UTC with Bill Withers' "Do It Good" in progress  S9 in NY with atmospheric noise.  Thanks for the tip everyone.  I guess as more international SWBC stations leave shortwave, the pirates will occupy their vacant frequencies.  This will certainly make the 49 meter band more interesting.  Jimi "All Along the Watchtower" at 0014 UTC.

Strong S9 signal in NY.  When I tuned in around 2250 UTC, it sounded like a professional wrestler was talking about his career.  Then a different OM ("the Crusher").  ID at 2255 UTC, "this is the Crooked Man calling".
