22 Meter Band HiFER Beacons / Re: New beacon SE?

This is (as Paul Harvey would say)  "a strange!"

There's some discussion on the LWCA website about this one.

Thanks for the link to W8JI's page....good information from a professional RF design engineer with decades of practical experience.

Is this it?   Don't think so, this is 6700.5 on the KFS Omni

Nice snag Chris. Which antenna did you use?

Nice signals out  of Hiker at 0230 on the SE KFS

Here's a shot of the neighborhood, with DW at the low end, with the solar tailed slow dasher above it. Up at the high end at 4102 area is Windy sending out anemometer data.

I'm pretty sure I heard it about 2300.  There was a fast ditter just a bit under 8005 that showed up well on one of the KFS Kiwis.

Was a treat to see (and hear!)

Found a review or two on Youtube...one even in English. Might give it a go. I saw that note about replacing the "chip" (what?!) .

As usual , there's the general clunkiness of operating all radios with few knobs but a lot of buttons (whether it's Icom or NoNameesium)

Anyone seen any reviews?

It's cheap enough I might take the gamble. After all:

Application: Si4732 radio receiver suitable for outdoor camping, listening to radio music in the kitchen, it is a necessary condition for participating in the parade and family life

Here's a nicer grab at 1700 z today.   Everyone is coming in nicely. Looks like a solar startup tail on one of the dashers at 4096.

Listened to DW last nite and could hear it inside on the whip  antenna on the portable. Really impressive performance for a very marginal receiver.

Windy appears here earlier and disappears earlier than the whooper.

No joy tonight. Will try in the AM .  Glad to hear of a new/old beacon back on.

Windy with a whole bunch of pips this afternoon.  It's windy down at Windy.

Listening from the Central Coast, Windy is considerably louder then The Whooper at 0100-0200.

Again, even with just a 3' long whip to the Degen portable, Windy is strong enough to carry on a QSO.  Impressive stuff.

Thanks for sharing your observations on the PV telemetry.  I normally don't listen early in the morning as I have the opportunity to  this week, and the sun availability vs PV number correlates well to what you describe.

I've noticed also, that the battery is pretty stout (especially given the duty cycle of the transmitter) and its recovery time is short, which supports your observation on the capacity of both. It's a well designed system and hopefully will be with us a good long time.

Wish we could send out the Geek Squad to service Windy.

I had never noticed that last slash before telemetry as being truncated as I heard it yesterday. Perhaps the AGC of whatever radio I was using further shortened it to the "dit" I heard
