General Radio Discussion / Pirate shortwave broadcast on 6930
« on: February 08, 2014, 0043 UTC »
Suppose I was to use an amateur HF rig to make a 10-minute broadcast of music (bluegrass and Southern Gospel) on 6930 AM, assuming a clear frequency at the time.  Would anyone likely hear it?  If so, would they listen to the entire broadcast?

I wish more people would play bluegrass and Southern Gospel music on the air!  :)

General Radio Discussion / Shortwave pirate stations
« on: January 27, 2014, 0034 UTC »
Are most pirate shortwave stations in the 6900 kHz band, just below the 40m amateur band?  Are there ever any in the 31m SW band (9400-9900 kHz) or other bands?  Is there something particularly special about 6900 kHz that makes it a favorite for pirates?  Which modulation modes do most of them use?

Bluegrass music rules!!  We need a HUNDRED more pirate stations like this!  Southern Gospel too!

Kudos to the operator of 98.7!  :)  As long as he wasn't causing any interference, of course.

General Radio Discussion / FCC notice of unlicensed operation
« on: January 26, 2014, 1913 UTC »
In reference to this FCC page:  http://transition.fcc.gov/eb/FieldNotices/2003/DOC-322883A1.html

It says that the pirate radio operator has 10 days to respond that he has authorization to operate.  But we all know that he doesn't, so what is he supposed to do in those 10 days, other than shut his transmitter down?

And how did the FCC find out about the station, since there is no station in the area operating on 95.3 MHz?  And how much power was he actually using?

Equipment / Transmitting audio on Yaesu HF rig

Is it possible to hook up an audio source (such as an iPod) to transmit audio on a Yaesu HF rig?  How exactly is the microphone jack configured?
