General Radio Discussion / Re: HFU links
« on: September 03, 2016, 1520 UTC »
Thanks for the replies so at least I know it's just not my phone or PC.

I sent them a couple review request last night and this morning. This is apparently pretty wide spread from what I can find out on the Google group for shortlinks. Just a lot of complaining with no real answers.

General Radio Discussion / HFU links
« on: September 03, 2016, 1432 UTC »
Since last evening the HFU shortened Google links don't work from the Twitter feed. When clicking the link I get,

this goo.gl shortlink has been disabled. It was found to be violating our Terms of Service.

I posted this here as this is where I expect someone will see it.

So, is it just me or is anyone else having this problem?

The RF Workbench / Re: Modulated 5W NS40

Did something similar with Michigan might mite. Used a input transformer which did not work very well. So I fed the circuit with an LM386 AND took the transformer out. Worked ok the wave form look pretty good on the SDR. I've not gotten back to that.project. I just wanted to broadcast in my house in AM. Which it did on about 6925 KHz.

My furthest is a little over 1000 miles. Delaware to Arkansas.

Check this out. http://dxworld.com/tvfmlog.php

Saw that last night it was pretty strong into Maryland.

37
Light signal at 6949.5 or I'm just hearing things. Anyone else?

Rich, Maryland

He's going to be in the Himalayan mountains. How much a 43 meter audience will he have?

39
Just try a higher frequency.

If you transmit on the traditional pirate band on 43 meters I doubt anyone will hear much of it anyway. Inefficient antenna, low power, along way to an audience. If you just want to be heard near the summit just use an FM transmitter, range could be quite good, line of sight etc.. If you really want to do HF try something in the 19 meter band, 15070 khz is a European frequency 1/4 wave would be 15 1/2 ft. Or this, http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=11616

And if your in the right part of the world and get caught we will never hear from you again (spy) so have fun

Has anyone else heard the pirates?

Have you checked to see if the wire is broken along the loop. It might be acting as a dipole antenna instead. To me, the numbers suggest that.

QSLs Received / Re: CWCW Radio Merle Haggard Tribute eQSL

I also received the same QSL and the same day received this, 18 USC §1657 makes it a federal crime to write a letter to a pirate @crimeaday.

I thought this law was ages old but looking it up list 1994 and references ships and the sea. Which is kinda disappointing as I was starting to feel "all gangster up in here" HA!

I did load up my wood stove with metal chimney one time. The RF burns from the rig were memorable. Nothing like an RF burn.

G5RV will work with an antenna tuner but a resonant 1/2 wave dipole antenna for that freq is only 67.82 ft long where as the G5RV would be 102 ft or so.

468/freq in Mhz is the half wave dipole formula. So 468/6.9 then divide by 2 to get the length of each side of the dipole antenna. This assumes 50 ohm feed.

If you can only get it up 30/35 ft it will be rather omni directional. If you get it up closer to 60 ft or more the pattern is broadside/perpendicular to the wire.

Depending on power output should be good for few hundred miles in daytime, and a lot further at night.
