CLB
216 kHz
0430z, 7/23/15
Wilmington, NC

Still hear this beacon at 1500z, in the daytime!(?)

I know this is no big deal, but this is the first
NDB on LW I've picked up.

About 6 months ago I finally bought a decent receiver, Kenwood R-2000.
Never really tried too hard to pick anything out on LW because I thought
a Loop or Beverage antenna was needed.
But with advice I got here on HFU from ChrisSmolinski and jFarley
saying my 100' random wire antenna should work, I nabbed CLB.

Now I'm all horny for LW Dxing!
Hopefully find some more beacons and maybe some Euro's on MW.
I should do ok if I'm hearing CLB in the daytime during summer.
Can't wait for winter time Dxing.

Equipment / Antenna wire, what type
« on: July 13, 2015, 1713 UTC »
Simple question, Is bare wire better to use
than insulated wire?
I currently use #14 insulated solid copper wire, 100' with balun and coax feed line.

Equipment / LW/MW antenna for Kenwood R-2000
« on: July 10, 2015, 2115 UTC »
I would like to start DXing LW and MW with my Kenwood R-2000. A loop would be best I guess but don't know much about them. My radio has SO239
antenna connection. Doesn't have internal mw/lw ferrite antenna if i'm not mistaken. I have 100' longwire I use on SW but probably not good for LW.

Loop antennas need to be rotated?
Indoors or outdoors?
Active or passive?
Feed line?

What should I try to hear on LW? Euro broadcast,
beacons?
Best time of day, year to listen?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Don, flexoman61
