Utility / RMW
« on: March 25, 2019, 1611 UTC »
In the past I was under the impression that I could copy RMW on 9996 (easily the strongest of its three frequencies for me) only in the early part of the evening hours, when I could get it at all. It's been a seasonal copy in spring and early summer in my experience. However I have been getting it in the morning hours at my QTH recently, c. 1500 UTC. Perhaps the recent little burst of solar activity is helping.

Today's log is RMW on 9996 kHz CW, 1407-1448z, SIO 333. Still there as I type this at 1611z but just above the noise now.

Spy Numbers / XPA2, 24 MAR 2019
« on: March 24, 2019, 1552 UTC »
Copied all three transmission of the 1500 UTC hour. The first at 1500 on 16138 USB was fair to good, but poorly decoded with numerous errors. The second at 1520 on 14438 USB was the cleanest and strongest, and the third at 1540 on 13438 USB was very good too. I do notice at least one difference in the decoded messages though. I'm trusting the 1520 one more than 1540 just because that signal had the edge. (Times listed are MDT, or UTC -6.)

0207 good signal here with some kind of heavy club music. Recording and will play back later, but thanks for the show.

Was checking 43m based on the morning pirate reports just to see if I was going to be lucky enough to hear what the kids back east were, but found this instead. Excepting the time when WRMI briefly was transmitting on 43m, I have never seen a SWBC station on this part of the band. Poor signal with high noise, but remarkable to me nonetheless. Sindhi language transmission targeting Pakistan per Eibi.

0238 Noticed this as I was wrapping up for the night. Techno music.
0239 deep fade, or possibly cut off and QRT.

Recorded last night at approximately the time that sunrise was happening at Meyerton. It was so strong that I thought, hearing the song with English lyrics, that I might have been getting a local MW harmonic at first, but the announcer made it clear that RSG was really coming in that well.

* This particular set of numbers and files was first sent on 22 FEBRUARY 2019. HM01 has been repeating them every day since then. In recent months they will broadcast the same number sets and files for weeks or even months on end, then on some random date they'll transmit an entirely new set. Sometimes that new set will progress normally for a few days and then begin to repeat daily, other times the repetitions begin the very next day.
A link to download these files can be found in the February log posting. They will not be included with any new files that will be transmitted in March.

Spy Numbers / XPA2, 13538 USB, 26 FEB 2019, 1540 UTC

Also copied at 1500z on 16338 USB (weak/fair) and 1520z on 14538 USB (good), but the 1540z transmission on 1540z was the best. I'm confident that Rivet decoded the numbers properly. It seems to need a strong signal, similar to DIGTRX with HM01, to work well.

The following decode was done, Mountain Standard Time (UTC -7) given because I never remember to change it to UTC.
