Nice DX.
Good LW DX conditions here in MI overnight.

Nice one Kat !

Amazing being able to pull out the beacon on the same freq as the AM station in Brampton ON.
Your antenna must be very directional.   :)

This one is really sick,
very weak with random miscellaneous tones.

Both those stations dominate their respective frequencies here day and night.
Have never logged another station on either freq.  The Cleveland station (being just
across the Lake) is much louder daytime than the Chicago station.

Did some internet searching, looks like there may be a NOTAM regarding this beacon for the entire month of October,
but could not determine any specifics.

Not hearing 353 QG Windsor ON...
AFAIK it was not on the latest decommissioning list.
Last logged @ this QTH 8-24-20, sounded weak (usually big sigs hr).

IIRC, about four years ago, a group went to the Marshall Is. with a 50 watt transmitter and tried to recreate Earhart's
presumed last transmissions.  Nothing was heard.
Now, flying around in a vintage plane off of Virginia with vintage radio gear transmitting to a vintage boat is going to
determine where Earhart's flight ended... color me skeptical.

Nice warm up here in MI past two days... should last at least through the weekend.
Fortunately the annuals survived the early frosts just fine.

Huh? / Re: 1950s Jet pilot training film shows LW beacon DF
« on: September 21, 2020, 0306 UTC »
That 360 degree joystick is the tuning control on the control head (sometimes referred to as a "coffee grinder") for the ADF,
probably an ARN 6 "bird dog".  The control head is in the cockpit while the actual receiver is mounted remotely elsewhere
in the aircraft.  The crank on the control head is linked to the receiver via a mechanical cable much like a speedometer on a (old) car.
Not sure about the tone but being 1955 could be a range station (AFAIK now all decommissioned) and
the pilot flies the beam... a solid tone.  If the pilot deviates from the beam he hears an A (. -) or an N (- .)
depending which side of the beam he is on.  Until more recently, the navaid frequencies were written on a paper approach plate.
Anyway, interesting film, thanks for posting.  Many aviation accidents are a result of a lot of little things that pile up and become a big thing.

MW Loggings / Re: WNRP 1620 Pensacola, FL now heard over Cuba at night?
« on: September 19, 2020, 0949 UTC »
Hearing them in Michigan this morning.  In and out with a SS station (probably Cuba).
Talking about storm recovery, maybe they are running full power at night during the emergency.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up, a new one for my logbook.

purple haze...
four 872s in a full wave bridge configuration off the secondary (actually primary) of a pole pig,
watch 'em glow on the AM modulation peaks;  long, long ago (sigh)

They have been underestimating on the forecast high temps recently...
maybe the computer models have not factored in the smoke.

Venus looked as red as Mars in the pre-dawn sky this morning.
