FOLLOWUP:  2045 UTC ON 760 KHZ. Received a new CountyComm GP-5/SSB today (pretty slick unit for $105 including shipping on EBAY thru BigApple.   ETM works wonderfully.. targeted 69 stations between 540 and 1710 khz)  and pulled in good ol' WJR tonite with a weak but steady signal with talk radio .  Interview with some YM with a Cuban/Jamaican accent rehashing his experiences living in a Communist country.

21:00 ID: "WHERE DETROIT COMES TO TALK" . Then news block leading with stories on Democratic rallies and Trump administration initiatives to combat the corona virus.

"The Great Voice of the Great Lakes"... nice catch on this one and the New Orleans station.

......and the ex-home of the former legendary Detroit Tiger announcer of 42 years, Earnie Harwell. (1960-1991 and 1992-2002).  Back in the early 60's when, as an 11 year old, I discovered I could pick up the Tigers games at nite on my 9 transistor under my pillow making my parents believe I was sleeping cuz I had school the next day. Living in Milwaukee I was a Milwaukee Braves fan but it was great to be able  to listen to American League games via Ernie and WJR. It was my 1st DX experience ever.

11780 KHZ @ 22:29 UTC in Portuguese.  Hybrid mix of Reggae / Caribbean music.   Mostly male vocals.  Signal strength strong @ peaks but slightly intermittent fading.   Fidelity crisper than normal.     Switched to a more electric, driving music at 22:37.   YL / YM conversation @ 22:39 .    Back to music with female vocals @ 22:42 as  fading dissipated quickly (probably due to grey line approaching @ 16:46 local).
Very enjoyable listening.

MW Loggings / Re: WOKY AM 920
« on: February 16, 2020, 0051 UTC »
Back in the 60's WOKY , "Center Aisle on Your Radio Dial", was the premier Top 40 station in Milwaukee,  Like most Metro AM TOP 40 stations,  WOKY withered under the avalanche of "FM Multiplex" broadcasters that emerged in the late 60's and now is a mere shadow of what it used to be.   I live 34 miles SW of their tower and  their 5 KW daytime QSB renders them unlistenable.  Their 1 KW Night Time power is totally silent @ this QTH although WOKY's night pattern is NE , away from me.   Nice catch if you're in the UP but a great catch if you're in lower Michigan.

SDR - Software Defined Radio / Re: SDR recommendation......
« on: February 12, 2020, 0211 UTC »
5 acres of Southern Wisconsin farmland.   Nearest city of any size is 15 miles away.  Very tall trees about 30 yards away, thickly spaced and VERY malleable under even light to moderate winds. Although I try to stay active I'm 69 years old and I'm not climbing them suckers.  I DO have a Whistler WS 1098  scanner than i run off of an old TV directional antenna up in the attic (it was here when I bought the house) than works beautifully picking up the 5 surrounding counties due, in no small part because the house is on top of a hill.  Since that works so well I was toying with the idea of running the SDR through a 100' bare wire antenna kit I bought a year ago and have not done anything with.  I figured as long as I don't double back over the wire layout this may work.  My shack is in an exposed ,finished  basement.  Is this a viable possibility?
Thanks.

SDR - Software Defined Radio / SDR recommendation......
« on: February 09, 2020, 2003 UTC »
....for an SDR compatible with MAC BOOK AIR running MAC OS HIGH SIERRA Version 10.13.6.  Just doing a little research there seems to be an extraordinary amount of problems with SDR/MAC capability.  I'm looking in the $200-$300 Range.
Thanks.

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Radio Farda 5860 Musical Glitching
« on: February 07, 2020, 1342 UTC »
Never heard of the "hung-up" glitch before but my experience with Radio Farda is always one of weak signals and consistent fading.
I agree with you on the 80's - SWLing back then bears little experience to SWLing now. Whether its worse now or just different now is subjective.
