I mostly just hear the carrier here, but faint music is popping up when the signal fades in. A very quiet noise floor on this frequency is helping.

Shortwave Broadcast / BBC via Abu Dhabi 12095 kHz 1820 UTC 19 Sept 2018
« on: September 20, 2018, 0140 UTC »
BBC via Abu Dhabi at 1820-1822 UTC and again 1851-1859 UTC. This broadcast is in Arabic to North Africa, with what sounds like all news and current affairs; no music. At 1859 UTC, I heard a clear ID along the lines of “BBC Alearabia” by a male voice with the BBC News jingle tune, followed by abrupt signoff.

The signal was weak and affected by choppy distance fading and daytime hiss and an electrical interference noise I've heard lately on the 25 meter band. Still, very audible from across the room. SINPO 24232.

It's always curious to me which signals aimed at other places make it through the daytime noise way up here in the Pacific Northwest. Some of the relays aimed at Africa from the east, including this one and broadcasts from the big transmitters in Madagascar, regularly break through here. Same for some of the other Africa-targeted broadcasts, including VOA's Botswana relay on 15580.

Utility / Taupo Marine Radio ZLM 6224 USB 0545 UTC 18 Sept 2018
« on: September 18, 2018, 1659 UTC »

ZLM, operated by New Zealand’s Marine Operations Centre, at 0545-0613 UTC with a synthesized voice in accented English (not quite a New Zealand accent) giving weather information, especially forecasted wind speeds when I first tuned in. The information included readings from Auckland and Wellington airports. Fair signal that peaked at good, with some fading and plenty of atmospheric noise; slight interference from other utility and possibly amateur operators. Overall, though, very audible. SINPO 24332.

I tripped across this one at 1848-1900 UTC on 15770 kHz. A fair signal, but with sometimes-deep fading in a language that sounded like Russian (could have been something else, as I can only identify about 10 languages by ear). Atmospheric hiss, but not much daytime static and no interference. In the time I heard it, the programming was all talking by a female host. Then a sudden signoff at 1900 UTC. No other station signed on that frequency in the new hour.

I can't find any listing for who might be on this frequency at that time.

North American Shortwave Pirate / YHWH 7470 AM 0328 UTC 5 Sept. 2018
« on: September 05, 2018, 0509 UTC »

The usual nonstop preaching about everything being satanic, with a fair to good signal until about 0345 UTC, when the static and noise began to overtake the signal. I heard it as late as about 0355 UTC before I lost any sign of the station.

Third night in a row I've heard him here. Tonight's signal is coming through better than last night.

Update: Checked in on this frequency again at 0311 UTC, and YHWH was still there. But no sign of a signal when I checked back around 0400 UTC.

Just tuned him in after checking this frequency and finding nothing in the previous hour.

Fair reception, though more noise than yesterday.

The signal was still on as of 0251 UTC, but with deep and long fades here.
