Just turned on the radio at 0220 UTC ...

The music's struggling to stay above the noise here near Seattle, but I can hear it pretty consistently.

137
Tuned in about five minutes ago. I can hear Latin American music fading up and then way down on my big Eton Elite Field with my long-wire antenna attached. At times, however, the music's even audible on my barefoot Sihuadon R-108.

0248 UTC: Is that a Morse ID?
0249 UTC: Definitely CW coming in strong at times.
0251 UTC: Hearing talking, but it's not readable.
0253 UTC: Sounds like the music's back.

General Radio Discussion / Re: YHWH - 1/25 update
« on: January 18, 2023, 1937 UTC »
I've not seen any logs since last fall. He was always a tough catch here, due to his frequency/time combos, so I rarely tried to hear him.  Plus he doesn't QSL  :P

I check 7475 kHz nearly every evening around 7-8 p.m. Pacific time out here near Seattle, and I often check the Northern Utah SDR at the same time for YHWH, but I also have not heard him for a couple months now.

Utility / Re: SHANNON VOLMET 8957 USB 2258 UTC 11 MAY 2021
« on: January 12, 2023, 0024 UTC »

I've not had very good luck getting Shannon on 8957, but it's been very good recently here on the U.S. West Coast on 5505 kHz. Usually audible from an hour before sunset and well into the night.

Utility / Re: 9600 USB HAARP December 27 20:45
« on: December 27, 2022, 2107 UTC »
I was just listening to it in AM mode here at my in-laws' place in Sequim, Washington. More subtle but still obviously the HAARP transmission around 2100 UTC.

The music's competing with a fair amount of noise here near Seattle, but a decent signal and audio is heard OK at its peaks as of 0103 UTC.

General Radio Discussion / Re: Mali

They've been missing often from 5995 kHz, especially that 0600-0800 broadcast, for weeks now. Glenn Hauser's remarked on it, too, on his weekly show. I usually check that frequency here on the West Coast before I go to bed, and I haven't heard Mali in at least a week and a half.

Not many signals in the 15 MHz band at 0218 UTC here on the U.S. West Coast, but I caught All India Radio broadcasting in Nepali on 15210 this evening. They started talking about historical events on this date, and  that section started with a man speaking in English, with translation in presumed Nepali right after.

The transmitter went off the air for a moment around 0224 UTC, then came back on air with English again, this time talking about the birthday anniversary of Bollywood actress Helen Ann Richardson Khan. After a short medley of  her singing in her films, the program went back to Nepali again, and the signal faded out to barely audible by 0235 UTC. Poor to fair reception before that point.

Just fading up to audible levels here at 0050 UTC as we move past sunset out here near Seattle.

0057 UTC: The Morse code playing over the music for a moment really was audible; overall signal is still just barely above the noise here.

General Radio Discussion / Re: WTWW QRT?
« on: November 12, 2022, 0156 UTC »
Yep, Wednesday night was the final sign-off around 0730 UTC on 5085. Ted Randall, who ran the place, announced on the air that the transmitter's electric bill jumped from $10,000 a month to $15k, and that was to blame for the switch to online only.

However, Glenn Hauser said on this week's "World of Radio" that the owner, Scriptures For America, found out their own program's weren't being broadcast when scheduled, so they personally pulled the plug on Ted and the station. I'm sure more is bound to come out.

General Radio Discussion / Re: Cold War Radio history.....
« on: November 05, 2022, 0127 UTC »
I guess I'll become #5 in the queue at Sno-Isle!

Fun fact: In part due to listening to shortwave during the Cold War years as a teen, I really focused on Cold War history while I was minoring in it at college.

I tuned in here around 1845ish and found just the signal gradually fading in better and better. By 1900 UTC, fairly consistent audio here of a man talking in Arabic.

*Listening via the NA5B SDR near Washington, D.C., to the 5185 relay*

0006 UTC: Redhat on the mic with a welcome after "Under the Stars" by Morning Parade. Good to hear your scratchy voice, sir!
0015 UTC: "Planet Claire" by The B-52s (a GREAT song).

*Now listening via the Northern Utah SDR, where 4185 kHz is fair to good and 5185 is inaudible*

0020 UTC: After a canned ID, "How Not to Drown" by CHVCHES & Robert Smith.
0025 UTC: Redhat on the mic with an HFU shout-out, then a canned ID, and "Annie" by Neon Indian.
0030 UTC: Redhat back on the mic, talking about the previous song, QSLing, his cat on his lap, and requests.
0033 UTC: "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.
0039 UTC: Canned ID, live song intro by Redhat, then "The Drone Racing League" by GUNSHIP.
0050 UTC: Redhat talking about C-QUAM stereo and tuning in when I came back downstairs, then HFU shout-outs.

*Now listening to 4185 via the KA7U SDR between Eastern Oregon and Idaho; fair reception*

0058 UTC: Canned ID, then a song I couldn't ID, followed by "The Hardest Cut" by Spoon.

0207 UTC: Checked my radios between trick-or-treat visitors, and X-FM is now audible here near Seattle on all three of my "everyday" radios with my long-wire antenna.

Thanks for the Halloween broadcast! I have to go help give out candy to trick-or-treaters for a while.

Listening via the NA5B SDR near Washington, D.C., as this one's inaudible out west here ...

2334 UTC: "Whoomp! There It Is" by Tag Team.
2338 UTC: "Halloween" by Aqua (who knew they had another song besides "Barbie Girl"?)
2342 UTC: "Halloween by the Dead Kennedys.
2346 UTC: "Monster" by Fred Schneider/B-52s.
2349 UTC: "Halloween" by Japan.
2354 UTC: "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo (sounds like a remix or extended version; I know this song well!)
2358 UTC: Still no audio out west here, though I can see a very faint signal on the Northern Utah SDR.
0000 UTC: Sound clip montage about radio and the FCC, ending with "Welcome to Radio Free America!"
0002 UTC: "Under the Stars" by Morning Parade.
0006 UTC: Redhat with welcome to X-FM. Mentions relay by Illuminati Radio. Nice to hear your voice again, sir!

Thanks for the Halloween night show and the great music!
