Will be mask by the pile up noise during band openings.

Don't give up so soon!
It may be masked by the numerous CB signals at times,
yet may be a challenge to hear and gather a few listeners
that accept a challenge!

Leave it going for awhile and test the water!
I'll be one to try mostly on weekends.

Oh, I know at least one person has been trying for it - I'm just currently in a mess radio-wise, and can't hear too much of anything at the moment.

I had a lightning strike a few weeks ago now, and along with some electronics that had to be replaced, it seems to have destroyed the interface to my antenna.  I'm going to have to rebuild it (not easy on zero income, as I still haven't been able to find a job yet), though for the time being, I can connect directly to the end of the wire for listening purposes - on a temporary basis.  That connection has to come down every time a storm rolls through and before I shut down every night, so I haven't been doing as much listening as I'd like.

We'll still keep an ear out for it, though.

There's a guy in California that has been running a 27 Mhz. beacon for almost 10 years.  From the looks of his website, it gets a few hits, but they are kinda far between.  Just be patient!  That is a tough band to beacon on.  Most of its inhabitants are paranoid types that will not even know what it is.  They will assume it is someone jamming that freq.  They'll lose interest soon enough and leave you alone.

I check for it daily. Monday-Thursday after 2100 UTC.  Friday-Sunday various times of day & night.
So far - not heard although I do hear CB activity all around that frequency. I also always hear what appears to be  a weak carrier centered on 27.000. It's always there.

Hi I listen for this one quite regularly but have not heard it as yet. I too have a carrier centered on 26.999.87 khz and some cb splatter. I have never tried to find the carrier but have an idea that it is something local like consumer electronics type. The signal strength never seems to vary so it not a normal signal (radio). I will keep an ear out for it playing with dsp etc. and see what happens.
Don't give up yet the fun is in the hunt.
