The Big Q, 1710kHz 2/17, 0845-0930+
« on: February 18, 2013, 0133 UTC »
Tuned in while messing about on the MW band, and what the heck?  I finally heard a pirate on 1710!  I've never managed that before.  Oldies music - The Archies, many others I didn't know - several Big Q IDs, a listener comment recorded from down a telephone line, and what sounded like silly commercials.  SIO 333 give or take, up to 444 at peaks but subject to deep fades.

I wonder if the Big Q QSLs?

Tecsun PL-660, Yaesu FT60R handheld, and Realistic DX-398 (back up and running!)
QSL's appreciated

The answer to a Big Q QSL is no. At least not at this time in the classical sense. Listen to the vid below as the "Q" shouts-out/acknowledges it's regular listeners. In particular a nice big on-air QSL acknowledgement to Kilokat. They also used a voice over from one of my older vids at 2:18 in the video.

Aha, gotcha.  Thanks for the info.  That video's pretty great!  The audio quality sounded about the same as what I heard last night, deep fades included.  When the signal's up, it's really excellent to listen to.  No sign of the New Jersey TIS here, though.

Believe me, wish I could say the same. Between that TIS and Radio Celestial out of NYC it can make life on 1710 rough :P
