Thanks, Chris; I also ran the numbers last night and couldn't come up with anything. This one is very intriguing, and bears more observation. It is a real signal which appears to be very close to 6955.0 and at least last night, it went away with what looks like a transmitter shut off, a 2-3 dB abrupt drop to the noise floor. The audio I get has been JBA, and I can't even ID the music genre.
It very well could be a spur or mix, but I am perplexed as to why you or any other DXers haven't seen this yet. FWIW, 6970 was S6 to S7 last evening, with nice sideband rendering in the waterfall.
It very well could be a pirate, but then again, why aren't others seeing this?
At this time of day, Chicago is very near the equinoctial greyline, which is also passing through Russia, Western China, and Bangladesh. This might explain why so far this has only been heard here. I have updated all my HF databases, but I find no reference to anything which might be a possible site. At this point I am stumped.
