On St. Augustine Beach, FL using Tecsun PL 600.  About 900 miles away from my qth, Excellent reception.

It sounds to me as if you are desperate for something to listen to, and your equipment is sub standard - so broadcast radio seems to be the only thing it picks up...

Interesting thought but not totally accurate.  Have a great deal of interest in NY sports, grew up there.  Curious to see where I can pick it up in on my various travels over the years.  Brought the only radio I own which didn't have a Lithium Ion battery per regulations with the airline I flew.  I have had success with some pirates/shortwave reception.  Thanks for your interest though.

Hmmm, AFAIK, the ferrite bar acts as the antenna for AM on the PL-600.
Do you find that the wire antenna enhances reception on the AM band?

What a rude comment.
I find MW DXing interesting at night and early morning hours.  New York to Florida on MW is a nice catch CT Yankee especially on a portable.  :)
