what software do pirates use to transmit?

a friend of mine has a pretty dece ham set up in rural canada with their amateur radio hooked up to a computer.  they can key up and transmit morse code, voice, etc, but what programs could they use to to send music out?  i dont know much about programming but either streaming or .. i dunno, winamp?  i hear it whips the llamas ass.

Winamp is unfortunately long obsolete. You can can find old copies on the Internet but are often repackaged with malware and viruses. Foobar 2000 is a good place to start. It is stable, fairly easy to learn and no cost.

Ideally you would want to keep the output level at least somewhat normalized, such as with AGC, compression, clipping, etc.

Broadcast is a decent place to start if using a VST plugin host with foobar2000.

Stepping up to more commercial Stereo Tool is a popular software DSP for broadcasting, streaming, and even local listening. The free version is a good place to start and tends to suffice for many users.

Stereo Tool could be used a Winamp DSP plugin in foobar2000 or a standalone app with a virtual audio cable interface like VB-CABLE or  VAC if desired.

Winamp did "whip the Llamas ass". I used to love that program. Winamp has seen somewhat of a reboot over the years. Version 5.9.2 (November 2023) appears to be the latest at this time.

RadioDJ or Play It Live are some good ones. I have experience with both though RadioDJ requires a MySQL database while Play It Live doesn't. RadioDJ does sometimes play two of the same song or same artist if your library isn't diverse enough which is another downside to it

I don't know of any pirates using this station automation software, but several Part 15'ers are using Zara Radio, including my stations. MRAM1500 has a nice link to that.  http://www.mram.us/    Then, a couple LPFM's, where I am, are using Radio DJ. So, free wares, that for the most part, work. For editing, I go cheap there, as well, with Audacity.

Thanks........ the Clock is my software as well - with a couple of Darkwood meters at the bottom.

I'm old fashioned (and old anyway ) I love all analog meters.
