Announcing the HFU SSTV Robot Listening On 27700 USB
« on: March 15, 2014, 1758 UTC »
The HFU now has a Robot dedicated to decoding and displaying SSTV transmissions!

Well, OK, it's actually an old iPod Touch, running a modified version of my SSTV decoding software: http://www.blackcatsystems.com/ipad/iPad_SSTV_Pad.html and connected to an Icom R71-A receiver. But you get the idea.

It is listening to 6940 USB for any SSTV transmissions in Scottie 1, Scottie 2, or Scottie DX modes. Only these modes are detected, in an attempt to reduce the number of false decodes due to noise, QRM or other transmissions. However there will still be a number of images of static, not much can be done about that, while still allowing the decoding of weak SSTV transmissions.

It's been running on 14230 in test mode, so some of the earlier images are ham transmissions from that frequency.

The most recent image can be viewed here: http://hfunderground.com/sstv/last_received_sstv_image.php

And a gallery of recently received images is available here: http://hfunderground.com/sstv/recently_received_sstv_images.php

I've retuned the SSTV Robot to 27700 USB, to catch some 11 meter SSTV activity. It did catch this transmission on 6940 at around 1224 UTC, just before the switch:

A small update to the SSTV Robot, the latest image is now automagically displayed on the upper right corner HFU browser window, when you are viewing the 10/11m meter board (or a message in that board).

There's no changes if you are on any other part of the HFU.
