SDR waterfall visions
« on: January 22, 2015, 1739 UTC »
Watching my new SDR's waterfall is so neat.

After I listen/watch, when I close my eyes I see waterfalls of AM transmissions. They're pretty well defined.  And then in the morning before any radio, I've seen perfectly vertical lines a couple times when I close my eyes.  I think I need to arrange the signals horizontally so I can give my eyes/brain a thorough work out.

So yesterday, I was outside and my eyes were drawn to a jet's contrail with the notion it was a signal on a waterfall!

I even used a new phrase the other day, "I'm going to go watch my radio."

Does this happen to anybody else?

Did this start before or after you got your medical card?

Sheesh, none of that green shtuff.  Have you ever done a lot of repetitious things and then saw that when you closed your eyes?

I've had it happen before, like when I would weed a lot: at night I close my eyes to go to sleep and I see the top view of the weed species I was weeding.

It happens sometimes...
I hear a song on the road or on the TV , and imagine what it would look like in the waterfall.
A sharp, nicely defined waterfall.

Here's a neat thing to try.

Often when I am staring intently at my waterfall (it scrolls down) while trying to visually decode CW I have occasion to snap a screen capture and then immediately open it with an image viewer.  This can be done very quickly with SDR Console.  For the first few seconds, the captured image of the waterfall will appear to still be scrolling, but now upwards!

There is a term for things like this in perception science, but the word escapes me.

It is very cool and very disturbing at the same time.  See a doctor if the symptoms persist for more than 4 hours.
