COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The sound of talk radio is changing in Southern Colorado, and there is quite a buzz about K-HIGH 1580 Weed Radio on the A.M. dial.

They launched this new format just three days ago, and people are already noticing.

It is the first publicly licensed radio station in Colorado dedicated to all aspects of marijuana. An extension of SOCO Radio, it currently offers three live shows throughout the day with studio guests, interviews, and discussion about the education, awareness and entertainment of marijuana.

“The stereotype that’s out there about current marijuana users and the culture itself, people think that marijuana users are a bunch of lazy ‘hey bro’ kind of people, and so, we just want to add some intelligence and awareness on what the culture is really like,” said Wake-n-Bake Morning Show Host David “Diablo” Rodriguez.

This station is the first of its kind, and they say it gives the public an outlet and voice they want. K-HIGH management said most forms of talk radio are dying, but the format is not dead, it just needs a little tune up with a more modern appeal.

“With that being said, you have to think outside the box. You’ve got to do some things that are different, and when this idea came up, we all kind of said… what? Really? And then we all kind of bought in and just two and a half days in the phone hasn’t stopped ringing of the hook,” said Program Director, Len Williams.

Already building an audience locally, they stream across the globe. K-HIGH show hosts say they have been getting calls and social media postings from around the world.

“It’s okay to talk about these things in public. It’s okay to talk about these things and have a good conversation about it,” said Williams.

K-HIGH 1580 currently offers three live shows throughout the day. Catch them mornings with the Wake-n-Bake Morning Show, then High Noon with Bubba Cushman, and afternoons with the High Drive at Five.
