Lots of storm noise on this frequency. S3-S4 at best.
0039 UTC, able to make out music but no chance to ID any of it.

Thanks WPIG to make it into my logbook this evening.

Picking up WPIG at 0042 UTC tune in tonight. At 0042, gave weather report, mentioning two inches of snow. Then I heard this ID: "Broadcasting live from North Brunswick, NJ." Then mentioned a heat wave, 90 degrees, followed by the phone number 908 750-1515.

0045 UTC- male announcer said send in a reception report for a nice QSL card, but no address given.

0048 UTC- heard the three little piggies song, one fell out of bed.

0052 UTC- music box IS played until 0053 sign off.

Readable signal here in northern New Jersey, with the proximity to my location being a positive factor; if indeed the QTH is North Brunswick, NJ.

Please QSL and thank you for the program tonight.

73's,

Edward Insinger

boomed into westchester, ny, on 6925 sub, from 0043 until carrier went off at 0053.  strange because i couldn't pick them up the night before.

0043 "weather report" given, mention of 90 degrees (could've been 9) and "heat wave"  followed by requests for reception reports from anyone "who heard this forecast..." please dial - 918-750-1515 tell them how they were coming in and they'd send "a nice qsl."
into "there was an army of pigs"
0045 "once i was lost... then i was found...
0046 announced phone # again (w/out area code?) "please dial... 750-1515"
0047 oinks
0049 started sign off w/"this is radio wpig signing off"
into "5 little piggies jumping on the bed, one fell off..."
0052 sign off continued w/what sounded like techno lullaby -
0053 - off

do they have an email?  (918)# gets what seems to be a pager?

please eQSL:  fgc180@aol.com

thanks for the broadcast!

Interestingly enough, I was tipped off that this was an off the wall pirate from 1994. That someone had saved a recording of this is fortunate! WPIG broadcast quite a few times in that year, was logged extensively and eventually busted by the FCC. I don't have the articles, but there is supposed to be information on this in "Pirate Radio: The Incredible Saga of America's Underground, Illegal Broadcasters, by Andrew Yoder" and also a story on the bust in the May 1994 Monitoring Times issue. I found the following link on a google search that has a listing of loggings of this in the earlier part of 1994...link is below:

"One genuinely weird station that I heard was WPIG. The station was operated by "Ira," who sang lots of kids' songs a cappella with a speech impediment. The guy gave out his home phone number and address, but still managed to stay on shortwave almost every night. Some people who called in made the mistake of giving Ira their home phone numbers. They were then treated to regular calls from Ira, who had a sort of pirate megalomania--he wanted to broadcast on all frequencies, including cordless phone frequencies! When the FCC finally closed WPIG, it was discovered that Ira was broadcasting from a group home in New Jersey." ~ Andy Yoder
