Sometimes I even weep.

Uncle Don, hey...

She had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton, back in 1965!
She had legs that never ended,
I was halfway paralyzed.
She was tall and cool and pretty,
And she dressed as black as coal.
If she'd ask me to I'd murder,
I would gladly lose my soul!

Now I lie in bed and think of her,
Sometimes I even weep.
Then I dream of her, behind the wall of sleep.

Well she'd held a bass guitar and
She was playing in a band.
And she stood just like Bill Wyman,
Now I am her biggest fan.
Now I know I'm one of many who
Would like to be your friend,
And I've got to find a way
To let you know I'm not like them!

Now I lie in bed and think of her,
Sometimes I even weep.
Then I dream of her, behind the wall of sleep.

Got your number from a friend of mine,
Who lives in your hometown.
Called you up to have a drink,
Your roommate said you weren't around.
Now I know I'm one of many
Who would like to be your friend,
And I've got to find a way to
Let you know I'm not like them!

Now I lie in bed and think of her,
Sometimes I even weep.
Then I dream of her, behind the wall of sleep...
Behind the wall of sleep, behind the wall of sleep.

Behind the wall of Sleep!

Yeah, Pat's put on a bit of weight.  But Kim Ernst, the object of obsession in "Sleep", still looks great.  You can just barely see her in the background of this 2012 concert video (tall gal in the green shirt playing bass).  I can see why DiNizio wrote those lyrics.  Kim had some of that Chrissie Hynde/Joan Jett bad girl vibe going on.

                       O. K. Seriously just between you two, (& you know who you are), & moi:
If boredom could be expressed/measured in tears I would
have drown in an ocean by now.

Wow. I'm glad you told me this. I thought he was rhapsodizing about being "Behind a Wall of Sheep".

Never mind.

The Shrimp didn't look bad in her prime either.

Sheep, goats, it doesn't make any difference to you does it, Al?

Nella, quit pickin' on Atrain and Lex. They can't help what they are.

All last summer in case you don't recall
I was yours and you were mine forget it all
Is there a line that I could write, sad enough to make you cry?
And all the lines you wrote to me were lies

Months roll past, the love that you struck dead
Did you love me only in my head?
Well the things you said and did to me, seemed to come so easily
The love I thought I'd won you give for free

Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you

Rumors follow everywhere you go
When you left and I was last to know
Famous now and there's no doubt, all the places you hang out
They know your name and know what you're about

Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you

Street lights break on through the car window
And the time too often on A M radio
Well you know it's all I think about I write your name, drive past your house your boyfriend's over I watch your light go out

Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you

Whispers at the bus stop
I heard about nights out in the school yard
I found out about you
I found out about you
I found out about you

I kinda got a kick, I remember the excited foxhunting for that station, but the folklore seems to have taken on new dimensions of tin-foil-hattery:
