There are pesquitoes all over HF, particularly between 6200-7000 kHz. Besides maritime comms - formal and informal - there are long distance truckers, and some remote islands still use HF comms like we use telephones. The languages you hear depend on your region and propagation. I hear mostly Spanish, English and some Brazilian dialects - not just Portugese. If you try some online receivers around the world you'll hear more variety, including many Asian languages, Russian, and others.
