3420 (1710x2) W807 Harmonic 2351 UTC 12/1/2015
« on: December 01, 2015, 2358 UTC »
I just noticed this one on the waterfall while listening to TCS.  Peaking good at times and then down to just a carrier and back up again.  I'm hearing ads for Chicago businesses along Archer Avenue, weather prediction talk, etc. all indicating a harmonic from W807 "Geo Research Rock Radio" on 1710 kHz.  I've never heard this harmonic before and W807 (on 1710) is generally a weak signal here, so this is a bit of a surprise.  This might offer someone a chance to hear them better vs 1710.

Quote from W807:

we are recognized by NASA, NDGRC, Department of Homeland Security, and the Pentagon. We're using the harmonizing tones in the broadcast AM band to predict certain weather and the geological phenomenon.

I'm 20 miles NW of downtown Chicago and even in ssb mode I detect no carrier on either 1710 or 3420.
Drake R8, Kenwood R-2000, Panasonic RF-4900, Sony 2010, Realistic DX440, Grundig Satellit 500, 7mhz backyard dipole, Mt Prospect, IL 20miles (32km) NW of downtown Chicago. I have been using online receivers because of strong data hash interference in my neighborhood that I believe is caused by Uverse squeezing up to 100mb/sec through ordinary pairs of wires. I don't have Uverse but neighbors do. williamhassig@yahoo.com

I have the faintest of carriers on 3420, but that is all.

After a good hour or so of monitoring 90 meters, it's mostly just a fuzzy carrier here with only occasional peaks to useful audio, peaking only 2-3 times within that hour to audio that could be understood.  I guess I just caught a lucky break.  BTW, the harmonic carrier seems centered at 3420.05

Great catch, kilokat!  I had some audio for a while, but mostly just carrier.
