Radio Havana Cuba 6870 AM 0102 UTC 2 Jan 2016
« on: January 02, 2016, 0121 UTC »
Heard again, this time with a better signal, and a clear ID at 0107. Pedro fumbling the frequency control on the transmitter, or a spur?

Recording of the ID at 0106: http://radiohobbyist.org/blog/mypics/Cuba6870.mp3

The audio is parallel with 6060, 6075, and 9535 kHz. So perhaps it is 6060 mixing with 810? 6060+810=6870.

IIJM and on a potentially related note, has RHC had some possible transmitter issues in recent days?

RHC routinely hits S9+50 (without preamp) here at night, but it recently has been intermittently as low as a barely above the noise floor.

I asked Glenn Hauser about this, he pointed out that the 810 transmitter is on the other end of the island.

Checking the RHC schedule, I see 13740 is in use at this time, which is 2 x 6870. So perhaps a subharmonic?

I did notice generally strong signals from RHC last night. 6870 varied widely, however, from barely audible to S9+ at times.

Checking the SDR recording, 6870 went off the air at 0459, 13740 is scheduled to close down at 0500, so that seems to be a good fit.

I then went back further, and noticed 6870 from 2353 until 0002. Perhaps it is fading in and out (I do notice a  lot of variability in the signal strength) or whatever is producing the signal is intermittent.

Going even further back, I observe it from 2149 to 2316, with just a carrier until 2200, when I hear music then a SS OM (the signal is fairly weak at this time) with a Radio Habana Cuba ID.

13740 is scheduled 2200-0500, so this fits perfectly.

Now, can I get a QSL from Arnie?  ;D

I've been wondering the same thing re: Habana and weak signals on legitimate outlets.  11670 has been barely audible the last few days, and at least one if not two other broadcasts have been surprisingly distorted.  Hmm.

At times I have had problem getting much of any signal from RHC normally they are a power house.  The other day I did a random tuning of the band (sri don't remember the freq) and I heard some music I liked. Well it turned out to be RHC but not on any freq listed in the data base.  I didn't take note of it because I figured the DB hadn't updated to the winter change over.  It did have good modulation (for once) but it wasn't where it should be?

I won't even had taken note until you folks mentioned it... hmmmm wazup?
