USA CB 27.025MHz AM

Some huge signals on 27.025MHz AM from USA this morning 2200z onwards after virtually nothing on 27MHz for over a week, Switchblade portable Hawaii plus 20dB over and Post Master in States plus 10dB among others.  However, 10m amateur band very quiet.

The infamous 11m CB channel 6 over here. Some of the biggest-signal ops are running 5KW+ (and few much more o.0 ) into high-gain directionals, thus often yielding DX results even when the adjoining 10m amatuer band seems otherwise quiet.

Also try monitoring 27.385 LSB, which is channel 36. It is the popular 11m SSB calling frequency in NA.

Like many in the HF hobby, even if some would rather not admit to it, I used to talk DX on 11m CB many years ago. Mostly during the 1990s for me. I will digress on much of the equipment specifics, but admittedly, I was usually running an export radio driving a solid state amp driving a multiple-tube amp when talking DX on channels 6, 11, 26, and similar 11m DX hotspots.

All good RobRich, I came to amateur radio from CB radio many years ago, and I will admit that I ran a full Yaesu FT-101E series station (including an FL2100B amp) on 27MHz and have no regrets, yes, it was illegal at the time, but it boosted my pursuit of further radio interest and if it wasn't for pirating 11m I wouldn't have increased my interest in radio and then become a radio amateur, like thousands of others.

I gathered that these people are running the Full Gallon, plus more, huge signals, huge ego's and not much real conversation.  There used to be an American fellow on 26.850MHz AM for a very long time, callsign was Jump Start, haven't heard him for a long time, he was a huge signal on AM.  What really surprises me that some of these huge signals claim to be operating from a mobile too.

Have a listen to 27.005MHz AM for the Japanese CBers, like the boys over your way there are some big signals there too.  As for the high powered CB base stations in the USA, I would hate to see the electricity account each month...

Some of the mobile ops are running amps with 16, 32, 48, and even more 2879 transistors.

There is at least one "off-the-shelf" ~48KW mobile setup available using 10 separate parallel amps in the final output stage. o.0
