A pry bar and stout stick to act as fulcrum (and protect your leg) works every time. You must get locked up in the holding tank? Raise some Hell and they'll stick you in the academic pods where you learn tips and useful tricks. Raisin Jack 101 is a dandy intro.

I have not seen any activity out of natoma / g0pher for about a year.  He used to be in #wunclub regularly, but it has been quite a while since I saw him there, would have to look at the logs to find out exactly how long it has been.

(edit)  I went and checked the logs, the last time g0ph3r said anything in #wunclub was June 26, 2015.  The last time he was in the room in any of the names he used was June 27 2015.
