Lack Of Pirate Broadcasts Lately
« on: May 18, 2016, 0202 UTC »
Has anyone noticed the lack of pirate broadcasts in North America in the last two days? Any ideas as to why that may be? My theory is that the new shortwave schedule is changing from B15 to A16, although this may be wrong.

Because its Monday and Tuesday?  Not big days, those.

But I have heard rumors that say some may not have shown tonight because of bad static anticipated from thunderstorms...

It's that time of year. The noise levels go up and the broadcasts go down. You can't beat the noise w/o a lot of power, many ops call it quits for the summer and wait for the fall.

As others have commented, it is not unusual to have short lulls in activity, especially on a Monday and Tuesday.

Every year I write up a summary of activity, here is the post for 2015: http://hfunderground.com/blog/?p=475

Here is a graph of daily activity from that article. You can see a few breaks in activity. Summer is slower, but still not completely dead:

That's an extremely interesting graph, Chris. Never really thought about it that way. Thanks!
