HM01 - Pedro strikes again
« on: July 13, 2016, 1605 UTC »
HM01's start time has been steadily creeping backwards for a while now. Knowing this, I tuned into today's (7/13/16) 1600z transmission on 11435 AM at 1557z because it's been starting about 1:40 before the hour (e.g., 15:58:20). When I tuned in, however, it was already on, reading yesterday's numbers and sending out RDFT, instead of the usual open carrier. But at about 15:58:20 today's numbers started being read without the RDFT, per normal HM01 protocol. Too bad I didn't think to record it while it was happening.

Actually that's a near everyday occurrence - not the very early starts but the beginning with yesterday's numbers.

For the 1600 broadcast? According to priyom that's when they're supposed to start the new day.

Something similar happened at the start of the 2200 broadcast today. I had tuned to 10715 after the 2100 batch finished and the carrier went off, and it started transmitting at 2154. By 2157 it was starting to do the RDFT but at 2158 it started over from the beginning with just all the numbers. I hadn't listened to any other broadcast but if I can stay up long enough for the 0500 transmission I'm going to tune in around 0450 and see what happens.

I am listening to HM01 on 11462 Khz now, and it started earlier so hope it doesn't have any problems.

Yes - usually 1555z or so following the open carrier they start with yesterday's numbers, often stopping in the middle of a sequence then commencing with the current numbers.  And back in June they ran the same numbers for over a week.  Strange.

Guess that's what happens when I don't listen closely for a while. This wasn't happening in May, at least not during the times I tuned in then.

I did notice that 7/13 didn't include any new sets of numbers - they were all +1 from 7/12's. I'll be sure to check back in an hour when the 1600z transmission is gearing up.

EDIT: Today (7/14) the 1600 transmission got underway at 1552 with yesterday's numbers, getting well into the point where it's sending RDFT, but at the expected time of approx. 15:58:20 today's numbers began, with one set being new and the rest the expected same set with the last digit raised +1 (e.g., 21856 is now 21857). I downloaded DIGTRX but there's a bit too much noise to decode anything. Also, the audio cord introduced a lot of noise into the receiver. I've got one with some kind of filter somewhere I need to use next time I try that.

They boom in here like they were next door so if a recording is needed to help you decode let me know.

Thanks. Since it's all coming out encrypted in some fashion that won't matter. I'm just having some fun with the program. I assume their actual agents probably do it this way, since SDR is kind of esoteric and might draw more attention. (Or maybe not, who knows? Not me, I'm not a spy.) Most of the time HM01 booms in clearly here too, especially the afternoon broadcasts, so I'll keep trying.
