Using MMSSTV with SDRplay/HDSDR
« on: September 01, 2016, 0251 UTC »
Not sure if this question has been already asked/answered, but will ask again.
I read to have the programs talk to each other a "virtual audio cable" was needed.
Are they any better choices for VAC software?
Am running PC laptop with Win10 (64-bit).
Thanks for any advice and suggestions.

Depending on your specific hardware/drive combination you may not need a virtual audio cable at all.  If your soundcard driver supports it you can use "stereo mix" in the sound control panel.

Right click on the speaker icon in the system tray, select "Recording Devices".  Make sure you are in "Recording Devices", and not one of the other possible selections, like "Playback Devices".

If "Stereo Mix" is in the selection area set that as "Default".

Now whatever audio is being sent to the speakers, no matter the source, will be routed to record.

If "Stereo Mix" is not a possible selection you may be out of luck with this approach, but maybe not.  Typically at least "Microphone" and "Line In" are listed.  Right click in the clear are below whatever is the last thing listed.  Make sure that both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices" are checked.  If no "Stereo Mix" or "Wave Mix" is on the list then you cannot use this approach.  If either are on the list enable them, and select as "Default".

Token, in the XP days that was the method I used to do things like this.  I'm not sure if its a hardware thing, but I haven't seen that offered in most of the setups I've come across since windows 7.

Sometimes you have to drill down a bit to expose the functionality.

I do it here under both Win 7 and Win 10.  In one case under Win 7 I did have to edit a driver to make it happen.  In several cases I have not been able to make it work at all.  Right now my success rate under 10 is about 50%, under 7 a bit better.

I don not have a "Stereo Mix" option in my setup.  I will probably have to install a "virtual audio card" and see/hear what happens next.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
