The 4070.3 Khz beacon
« on: September 11, 2016, 0205 UTC »
I got an e mail from someone a month ago and they asked me if I was hearing a dasher up on 4070.3 khz...
I listened occasionally for it but the static levels caused me to move on to a higher band where the qrn was not so bad.  Then I stopped listening all together.

This morning at 1200 utc I decided to listen again I was up anyway,  and low and behold there it was clear as day but very weak...a dash every 2 secs is what I counted...
this went on for 20 mins and then it faded down a couple of times into the noise and then back out of the noise...about the third fad down, it never appeared again.
I found the strange e mail address of the person who asked me to listen for this beacon and it doesn't exist any longer which adds to the Radio mystery.

P.S. I haven't heard the 4096 beacons in a long time mainly because I have a carrier on that freq.  I haven't heard the X beacon either...so having a 4070 beacon to listen to this winter will be fun....

Tuned to it here just after 0300 utc and hearing it with QSB amidst the static crashes.

Weak but comes up out of the noise regularly at the moment.

Hearing it barely above my noise level at 0510Z - thought I heard a few dashes an hour or so ago, but thought my ears were playing tricks on me.  It was probably there all along, as it fades in for a minute, and then out again, and back in about every minute or so right now.

I'm hearing the 4070 beacon for the first time, 1006z on 11 Oct 2016. Fairly weak, but comfortably above the noise floor.

We should probably add this beacon, as well as SHORTY, to the list of currently active beacons?

Nice copy again...time 1154 utc...

Chris,
Yep I think you should list it...I think it has been on for a while and the radio Gods
welling it will keeps beeping away giving the SWLers like us something to listen too, that will dance
around in the ether.

I have been trying to come up with a name but haven't , any ideas?  Maybe 4070 is enough of a name.

I added it to the list, as well as shorty. Let me know if you think there's anything that needs to be removed from the list, or at least marked as possibly inactive. Or if there's anything missing.

I had it for about 15 min solid from 0200-0215 utc then it just faded away into the ether...then some SSB Spanish was around the Freq.

Caught this again tonight @ 0300z.  Pretty weak at my QTH (had to tweak it with the cw filter) but has had some QSB with better copy on the fade-ups.
