Heard same transmission starting at 21:10.  S7 to S9 in Northern California.  Any idea as to who it is?

HM01 is known to be operated by Cuba's intelligence agency, and broadcast from the same facilities that bring you Radio Habana Cuba. They are known for being rather sloppy at times, and airing RHC when they should be airing HM01. Here's a sample:

Note the time and frequency, and note that right at 21:01 (about 4:25 into the video), when HM01 signs off (which is normal at this time on 11880), that it goes straight into HM01. This kind of error happens frequently, although usually only for a few seconds rather than several minutes, and is one of the most compelling bits of evidence that HM01 is Cuban. Naturally, they have never confirmed its existence, but no government has ever said Yeah, that numbers station is one of ours.

listening right now, 21:07 UTC, 11.635, to HM01.  The segments of noise are described as data bursts, I believe.  Do they actually contain data?  What kind of system, digital?  ie: RTTY, AMTOR, PACTOR, PSK31?  Obviously I'm new to this, but I find it very intriguing. Very good signal, solid S8 in Northern California.

The digital mode used in HM01 is referred to as Redundant Digital File Transfer (RDFT), a mode initially created for use by ham radio operators, which Cuban intelligence adopted in 2007 for SK01. The program used by HM01 to create these portions is DIGTRX.

The digital portions carry files with 8-digit file names and extension ".txt". The last 4 digits of the file names are the headers spoken in voice. The contents of these files are encrypted binary data.

The author of the DIGTRX program wrote up how the data portion of HM01's broadcasts work here. If you're running Windows, you can download the program and receive the files yourself. The results are still sent in come kind of cypher of seemingly random symbols, but it's a fun way to kill some time with the most frequently broadcast numbers station that we can regularly copy here in North America.
