There is reference to "RLO" used as a callsign for the Russian Navy Northern Fleet.

http://www.astrosol.ch/networksofthecisforces/navymorsenetworks/thenavyheadquarters/index.html

I suppose if this is Russian the Cyrillic Morse Code would result in: "PЛО"

It's also referenced as a callsign for a VLF beacon on 18.1 kHz. "Russian military naval communication station. The transmitter is believed to be located at Ryazan (also spelled Riazan or R'azan), Russia." My radio doesn't tune that low so I can't check if it is there.

This is why I need to practice morse code.

Tonight I was listening to this beacon and realized I copied the code incorrectly!

This is WLO Mobile Radio in Alabama providing coastal radio station ship to shore communications. The actual frequency is 8421 kHz.

Here is their website:

Here is a better recoding of the station:

The Russian Navy idea was certainly more exciting.

Yes, WLO has been on for decades. Now they usually ID in CW followed by bursts of SITOR or some other digital mode. But I used this station to cut my teeth on copying CW back in the 60's when their traffic was carried out entirely with CW.
